HEI Hotels & Resorts announced today the appointment of James Gross as the new general manager of the Sheraton Austin Hotel. Gross joins the hotel from the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter where he had served as general manager since 2004.
"We are constantly looking for new talent with a track record of success throughout their career," said Senior Vice President of Operations Larry Trainor. "James has a history of creating a great customer experience and provided tremendous results every step of the way."
The Sheraton Austin recently completed a refurbishment of all of its 365 guestrooms, positioning the property as the premier hotel in downtown Austin. The renovated rooms include new Sheraton Sweet Sleeper beds and large Plasma HD televisions. Located one half mile from the convention center and 10 miles from Austin Bergstrom International Airport, the hotel provides more than 17,000 square feet of flexible meeting space for groups of 200 or more.
"I look forward to leading the Sheraton Austin team as the hotel enters this exciting new phase of its legacy," Gross said. "Part of my job also will be to ensure that the hotel continues to be an active member of the Austin community.
During his tenure as general manager of the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter, Gross significantly improved guest service and brand loyalty scores. Prior to that, he served as general manager at a number of upscale hotels throughout the U.S., in Florida, New Jersey and New York, after beginning his career as a chef at the Enjoie Golf Club in Endicott, New York.
