Marriott International has promoted lifetime employee Harry Singh to Area Director of Operations for Australia, New Zealand & Pacific (ANZP) after more than 20 years with the company.
Singh completed two decades with Marriott last year and was appointed General Manager of the brand-new AC Hotel Marriott Melbourne Southbank in July, having successfully launched the award-winning Element Melbourne Richmond in 2018.
Sean Hunt, Area Vice President, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific, Marriott International said the appointment demonstrates Marriott’s commitment to providing long-term career prospects for their employees.
Talent retention and internal promotion, as well as diversity and inclusion programs, mentoring and wellbeing are all key focus areas of the business.
“Harry has proved to be a hardworking, insightful and valuable team member over the past 20 years and will play a vital role in the successful management of our hotels across the portfolio during a busy time of growth for the company,” he said.
Singh commenced his career in 2001 as a Management Trainee at The Renaissance Mumbai Hotel and moved to Australia four years later to take up a role at Sydney Harbour Marriott. He was then promoted to Operations Manager at Courtyard by Marriott North Ryde.
A move to Melbourne Marriott as Director of Operations in 2012 was followed by a return to Sydney two years later to join the team at Pier One Sydney Harbour, before a second term in Melbourne at Element Melbourne and AC Hotel.
Singh is looking forward to returning to Sydney and working with the talented staff across Marriott’s 40 plus hotels to collectively elevate the group’s well-known service standards.
“I have only ever worked for one organisation my entire life, starting my career with Marriott as a management trainee straight out of hospitality school. This program has now evolved into the VOYAGER program and is still developing the best young talent looking to break into the industry,” he said.
“I have been in the hospitality industry for 21 years and I still find myself loving it each day. The opportunities to travel, the potential to meet new people and work in an exciting environment with other passionate associates is unparalleled. As the industry heads into recovery after a tough couple of years, I look forward to helping inject the fun back into hospitality, bringing the reason why we chose this industry in the first place to the forefront.”
“What I’m most excited about is helping our talent grow. This role will give me the opportunity to connect with and mentor the amazing talent we have in this region and hopefully help someone else achieve their career dreams, either starting like myself as Voyagers or in Front Office, as the opportunities at Marriott are endless.”
