Radisson® Hotels & Resorts today announced the appointment of Tom Mason as the new general manager of the Radisson Plaza Hotel Minneapolis at 35 South 7th Street in the heart of the city's downtown area. Mason brings more than 25 years of property management experience in the hospitality industry to the position.
"Tom's extensive experience leading upscale, full-service hotels in major markets, including Minneapolis, will be an advantage in managing this important company-owned and managed Radisson hotel," said Fredrik Korallus, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Radisson Hotels & Resorts - The Americas. "He is a dynamic manager who will lead the hotel's talented employees in achieving operational success and guest satisfaction that reflect the essence of the Radisson brand."
Most recently, Mason worked for Turnstone Group, LLC in Minneapolis, responsible for providing direction for hospitality related investments and asset management. Prior to that, he served as General Manager for the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis and the Hyatt Whitney.
Mason has served in hotel operations and leadership positions for the Hyatt Hotel Corporation since 1981, when he started in the industry as a Corporate Management Trainee. In addition to Minneapolis, he has also served as General Manager at the Hyatt Regency Knoxville, Tenn., and was a Rooms Division Manager at Hyatt Regency hotels in Houston, Dallas and San Antonio, Texas. While at Hyatt, he was nominated as General Manager of the Year in 2002 for the Donald N. Pritzker Award of Excellence.
Mason has a Bachelor's of Science degree from Michigan State University - Business School. He is a Board Member and served on the Executive Committee for Meet Minneapolis. He was formerly President and a Board Member for the Minneapolis Hotel Association, the Minnesota Hotel & Lodging Association and the Minneapolis Downtown Council. He was also a member of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of the Matt Birk HIKE Foundation.
A recipient of the 2009 AAA Four-Diamond Award, the hotel features 360 elegantly appointed guestrooms, including 17 suites. The Radisson Plaza provides 21,000 square feet of flexible, well-appointed meeting and banquet space, as well as the elegant Scandinavian Ballroom, making it a perfect venue for hosting a meeting or wedding. Other services of the Radisson Plaza include a 24-hour business center and complete fitness center.
