Wessel Witthuhn has been appointed as President – Africa & Indian Ocean Region for IFA Hotels & Resorts with immediate effect.
“As the majority of IFAHR’s projects in Africa and the Indian Ocean region are currently under construction and weighted towards design and development, it is imperative that the individual appointed to lead the region through this phase should be highly knowledgeable in this field” said Talal Jassim-Al-Bahar, Chairman and Managing Director IFAHR.
“I am pleased to confirm Wessel’s appointment to the newly created position of President – African and Indian Ocean Region. While having overall responsibility for the Africa and Indian Ocean Region, he still retains his current responsibilities for Design & Development within the region” he concluded.
Witthuhn holds degrees in BSc Building Science and MSc Construction Management and commenced his career in the construction industry in 1987. After working as General Manager for Grinaker Infrastructure Development, he joined Damac Properties in Dubai as Vice-President in 2002. He was headhunted in 2003 to take over the management of Real Estate and Property Management divisions within the Al-Rostamani Group Dubai.
He joined IFAHR in May 2006 as the Vice-President: Design and Development (Africa and Indian Ocean). His portfolio covers all aspects within this region, including operations, market positioning, strategic planning, implementation and developing new economic areas.
IFAHR is investigating new investment opportunities in other African countries, however its current project portfolio in the Africa and Indian Ocean region include:
SOUTH AFRICA
•Zimbali Coastal Resort & Zimbali Lakes Resort - IFAHR has a 50% stake in the joint venture that developed the luxurious resort, a 1400 hectare prime residential and resort estate located on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal. (www.zimbali.co.za)
•Fairmont Zimbali Lodge - IFAHR owns the exclusive Zimbali Lodge, managed by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. (www.zimbalilodge.co.za)
•The Fairmont Zimbali – A new R1.8bn hotel resort, with a unique portfolio of properties including apartments, ultra luxury villas, golf chalets and villas, including a Fairmont Heritage Place Private Residence Club to be managed by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. (www.fairmontzimbali.com)
•Boschendal Limited - A mixed- use resort development at an historic Cape Estate. IFAHR’s current stake in Boschendal is 26,57%. (www.boschendal.com)
•Legend Golf & Safari Resort – situated in the Waterberg area of the Limpopo Province. The Legend development, was officially launched in November 2007, and forms part of the malaria-free 22 000ha Big Five Entabeni Safari Conservancy. IFAHR has a 50% stake in this development.
KENYA:
•Fairmont Hotels – IFAHR is a shareholder in five Fairmont operated Hotels in Kenya.
ZANZIBAR
•Located on the historic Tanzanian spice island, with joint venture partner Kingdom Hotel Investments, the Fairmont Zanzibar Resort re-opened in 2007 and is managed by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.
NAMIBIA
•There are four hotel projects to be operated by Kempinski in Namibia, namely in Windhoek, Swakopmund, Etosha Pan and on the Chobe River Delta.
SEYCHELLES – ZILWA
•A JV partnership between IFAHR and Indian Ocean Resorts Ltd (IOR) has acquired the Seychelles island of Ste Anne for a major new mixed-use development.
