Belmond, the visionary leader in luxury travel, has today announced key leadership appointments.
Industry veteran Christian Boyens will join the company in the role of Vice President and Divisional Leader of Southern Europe. Iain Langridge will take on an added responsibility in his new role as Vice President and Divisional Leader of Northern Europe, Africa and Asia Pacific.
Starting his new role on 23rd January, Christian Boyens will oversee the operations and management of the Southern Europe division, covering Italy, Spain and Portugal.
With over 25 years of experience in luxury hospitality, Christian will bring his wealth of knowledge to further drive service excellence and brand desirability in the division which consists of remarkable properties such as Splendido, A Belmond Hotel in Portofino and Caruso, A Belmond Hotel in Ravello - both have recently been awarded Best Hotels in the Conde Nast Traveller’s Gold List - and other iconic hotels such as Hotel Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel, Venice, Reid’s Palace, A Belmond Hotel in Madeira and La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel in Mallorca.
Prior to joining Belmond, Christian served as Head of Operations, Urban Hotels at LVMH Hotel Management/Cheval Blanc.
During his time at Cheval Blanc, Christian led the team to a successful highly anticipated opening of Cheval Blanc Paris. For more than 8 years, he was also the General Manager of The Ritz Paris where he oversaw the closure, renovation, and repositioning of this iconic hotel. Prior to Europe, Christian spent 11 years in the USA at The Peninsula Beverly Hills and Hotel Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica. Christian will be relocating to Milan for his new role at Belmond.
Iain Langridge joined Belmond in 2020 as Divisional Managing Director for Asia Pacific.
He has since led the company’s Asian hotels through the pandemic, developing and implementing plans of ambition that have elevated guest experience and driven property brand desirability in the region.
In the past three years, Iain has taken on additional responsibilities at a global level, playing an active role in multiple steering committees that have led to the rollout of strategic initiatives across the company.
In his new role, Iain will be responsible for the operations and management of the newly created Northern Europe, Africa and Asia Pacific division, which consists of an extensive breadth of properties in the Northern Europe, Africa and Asia Pacific regions.
From urban hotels such as The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel in London and Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel in Cape Town to the long-standing Michelin-starred Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons, three Safari lodges in Botswana and leading resorts in global leisure destinations such as Napasai, A Belmond Hotel, Koh Samui and Jimbaran Puri, A Belmond Hotel, Bali.
These leadership appointments follow the company’s recent restructure which saw the creation of two new divisions - Southern Europe and Northern Europe, Africa and Asia Pacific as Belmond forges ahead with its vision to become the world’s most desirable travel brand.
Recently, Belmond announced it has made significant headway on its 10-year asset rejuvenation strategy across its portfolio and shared a renewed brand focus on experiences that will deepen guests’ connection with the destination.
Roeland Vos, CEO of Belmond, said of the appointments: “Both Christian and Iain are exceptional leaders with proven track records to achieve outstanding performance and strong passion to develop and grow the next generation of hospitality talent. We are thrilled to have them both to lead these newly created divisions as we continue to strengthen our portfolio through elevating brand desirability and operational excellence.”
