Luciano, who joined HKS in 2006, is one of the most respected hotel and resorts architects working in the international luxury arena with a string of unique and exclusive projects to his name including Ananda in the Sahyadris, a wellness and spa resort in the forest of Maharashtra, India; Fairmont Taghazout Bay, Morocco; Four Seasons Plavi Horizonti, Montenegro; and, in London, the recently opened South Kensington Club.
Italian-born Luciano describes architecture as a never-ending journey. “Architecture touches so many forms of human expression: art, history, culture, aesthetics and functionality. For me, being an architect is about going beyond the mere design of a building; it’s about using architecture to embrace an entire culture, to be engaged with society as well as with the environment. Architects have to be willing to travel, explore, listen and learn to create vibrant, inspirational and relevant design.”
Luciano cut his architectural teeth working on the new and seminal headquarters and factory of luxury sports car manufacturer, Bugatti, near Modena before moving to Sri Lanka. Here he established his own practice which was commissioned by both the Italian and Vatican embassies on the island as well as by a number of regional hospitality developers. He holds a Degree in Architecture from the Venice Institute of Architecture and is a member of the Italian Register of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservation Architects. His promotion at HKS comes as Luis Zapiain, the former director of the hospitality team in London, relocates to the USA to work in the company’s headquarters in Dallas.
