Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is honored to be awarded two Michelin stars for its fine-dining restaurant Librije's Zusje Amsterdam. The accolade was announced at the launch of the Michelin 2015 guide where Executive Chef Sidney Schutte and Food & Beverage Manager Geralda Joziasse were present. The award is a unique achievement since the restaurant opened on May 1, 2014, as part of Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam. As head inspector of Michelin Benelux, Werner Loens said in an interview, "From zero to two Michelin stars is truly unique; we haven't seen this happen before in The Netherlands. Not with a new restaurant and a new team; this is extraordinary."
With the support of Jonnie and Thérèse Boer, owners of 3-star restaurant De Librije, with which Waldorf Astoria has a partnership, driven and enthusiastic Executive Chef Sidney Schutte, has spent the past months developing a gastronomic vision that combines the unique philosophy, quality and values of the Waldorf Astoria
and Restaurant De Librije.
Located on the lower ground floor of Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam, with beautiful views of the courtyard garden, Librije's Zusje Amsterdam serves delicious local specialties and international cuisine in a traditional yet contemporary setting. The menu includes the executive chef's signature dishes recognizable in specific dishes and ingredients.
Roberto Payer, general manager, Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam, said, "We are very proud that Librije's Zusje Amsterdam received such prestigious recognition only seven months after the opening. It is a huge compliment to the whole team, under the inspiring leadership of Executive Chef Sidney Schutte and Food & Beverage Manager Geralda Joziasse."
Sidney Schutte, executive chef, Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam and Librije's Zusje Amsterdam added, "We wouldn't have been able to achieve this without the incredible dedication of the team, with their professionalism and good fellowship. This is a fantastic reward for the hard work and a great motivation to continue what we are doing."
Simon Lazarus, vice president food & beverage, Hilton Worldwide, said, "A heartfelt congratulations to the team for achieving two Michelin stars in record time! This is a fantastic accolade, and well deserved by all involved! At Hilton we are privileged to work with many of the world's finest chefs and Sidney joins an illustrious group including Heinz Beck, Pierre Gagnaire and Chris Galvin at our properties across Europe and the Middle East."
