Steve Cowan has been named general manager for both the Doubletree® Hotel Crystal City/National Airport and the Embassy Suites Hotel® Crystal City/National Airport in Arlington, Va., according to Michael Hirsch, area vice president, Hilton Hotels Corporation. Cowan will oversee the day-to-day operations of the 630-room, upscale, full-service Doubletree hotel, and the 267-suite Embassy Suites Hotel, both of which are located just 10 minutes from Ronald Reagan National Airport and all major government centers and attractions in Washington D.C.
A 17-year veteran in the hospitality industry, Cowan comes to Crystal City from the Hilton Washington, where he has held the position of resident manager since 2003. He began his career in at various hotels and resorts in New Hampshire and Maine in the early 1990s, before becoming general manager of a hotel in Augusta, Maine in 1994 and then opening an upscale, boutique hotel in Brunswick, Maine in 1995. Cowan joined the Hilton Family of Hotels in 1997 as general manager of the Embassy Suites Hotel® in Portland, Maine and then was promoted to general manager of the Doubletree Guest Suites® hotel in Atlanta, before arriving in Washington D.C. in his most recent position.
Cowan attended the University of Maine and received his Certified Hospitality Administrator (C.H.A.) certificate from the American Hotel & Lodging Associations Hospitality Administrators program in 2000. He is an active member of PCMA and served on the board of directors of DuPont Circle Merchants and Professionals Association as well as the Historic DuPont Circle Main Streets Program.
