Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott Hotel is delighted to announce that Morten Skumsrud has been appointed as Hotel Manager, effective from March 2012.
Having dedicated himself to the hospitality industry for over 20 years, Morten has pursued his lifelong dream of being an hotelier. His career draws on a wealth of education and experience across two continents, allowing him to balance a more traditional European approach to service and management with a more business-oriented style from across the Atlantic.
Morten joins Grosvenor House from his position of General Manager at Marriott’s Marbella Beach Resort, Europe’s largest Marriott Vacation Club International. In his tenure the resort was recognised as the MVCI Resort of the Year and received high guest satisfaction scores.
As a proven hotelier with considerable experience, Morten has a deep understanding of the international hotel industry and Marriott brand having been working for Marriott International for over a decade, having first joined Marriott International as an Executive Management Trainee at Marriott’s first Scandinavian hotel in Copenhagen.
Prior to that, Morten spent seven years working with Mirage Hotels for the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino, with 2,995 guest rooms and suites, a multitude of restaurants and bars and its own spectacular stage production by the Cirque du Soleil. Here he rapidly worked his way up the ranks, holding positions such as Reservations Manager, Revenue Manager and Front Office Manager, before being promoted to the post of Director of Hotel Operations at the world’s tenth largest hotel.
Stuart Bowery, General Manager of Grosvenor House, comments “Morten’s strong track record in the luxury segment and within Marriott International will stand him in good stead for this exciting and challenging new position. I congratulate him, wish him all the success and look forward to having him on the team at Grosvenor House.”
Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott Hotel opened its doors to the public in May 1929 and quickly established itself as the glamorous home of the society set and wealthy Americans, attracting a fashionable crowd from Edward VIII and Mrs. Simpson to Ella Fitzgerald and Jacqueline Onassis. Fast forward to 2008 and the hotel culminated one of the most extensive renovation projects of its kind. Thanks to a multi million investment Grosvenor House has resumed its place amongst London’s most desirable hotels and is restored to its former glory, being awarded The Visit London Award for Large Hotel of The Year. The extensive restoration programme includes five bar and four dining options, ranging from a traditional American menu in JW Steakhouse to award-winning afternoon tea in the scenic Park Room to Corrigan’s Mayfair, the signature restaurant of celebrity chef, Richard Corrigan. www.londongrosvenorhouse.co.uk
