Anantara Resorts and Spa’s, one of Asia Pacific’s largest hospitality companies, is proud to announce Andrew Turner as General Manager for the Anantara brand’s first property in China - Anantara Sanya Resort & Spa - due to open in early 2011.
Renowned as the “Hawaii of China”, the city of Sanya is located on the southern tip of Hainan Island and is hailed as Asia’s hottest new beach destination. Taking the helm of this true oriental paradise, Turner brings with him a wealth of resort opening and managerial experience across many different cultures; a combination that has a strong fit with the luxury experiential Anantara brand.
Turner joins Anantara from a General Manager role at Solis Lough Eske Castle in Donegal Town, Ireland, accomplishing worldwide recognition since the property’s opening two years ago. Indeed since graduating from The Hotel School InterContinental, Sydney in 1993, he has gained over 15 years’ international hotel management experience.
Turner has held management roles with The Ritz-Carlton in Australia, the US, Egypt, Qatar and China as well as assisting in numerous hotel openings including the Capella Hotel and Resort, Castlemartyr, Ireland.
Turner’s climb up the hospitality career ladder continued in the Middle East with his first General Manager appointment at The Ritz-Carlton Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt and as Hotel Manager at The Ritz-Carlton in Doha Qatar, culminating in a wealth of opening and leadership expertise.
Peter Carmichael, Senior Vice President of Anantara, comments, “Anantara is renowned for introducing discerning travellers to the most enchanting destinations on our planet, and as our first property in China, Anantara Sanya highlights both our key destination choices, as well as Anantara’s global expansion roll out. We are therefore delighted to welcome such a well respected industry figure as the resort’s GM, and also to immersing guests in one of the oldest cultures in the world through Anantara’s signature experiences.”
