March 27, 2006--Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:HOT) announced today the promotion of Kenneth S. Siegel to Chief Administrative Officer. Mr. Siegel, who joined Starwood in 2000 as Executive Vice President and General Counsel, will continue to oversee the company's legal and government affairs, while assuming new areas of responsibility including human resources, labor relations and compliance. He will also continue to advise Starwood's Board of Directors on legal matters. Mr. Siegel, 50, reports to Steven J. Heyer, Starwood's Chief Executive Officer.
"Ken is an important partner to me and Starwood's senior leadership team and has been vital to our young company's success and maturation," said Mr. Heyer. "Ken has also served as one of the primary architects of our evolving business strategy, and it makes sense for him to take on a broader role within the company at this time."
During the four years prior to joining Starwood, Mr. Siegel was the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Cognizant Corporation and its successor companies. Cognizant, a multinational information services company, was originally comprised of IMS Health Inc., Nielsen Media Research and The Gartner Group. In 1998, Cognizant divested its three unrelated components into two entities, and Mr. Siegel became General Counsel of IMS Health, which included IMS Health and a controlling interest in Gartner. In 1999, IMS Health spun off Gartner in a tax-free transaction Mr. Siegel designed, and he was named General Counsel of Gartner in January 2000.
From 1994 to 1997, Mr. Siegel was a Partner with Baker & Botts LLP, responsible for a full range of corporate legal services with particular focus on technology-oriented clients including Lotus, Polaroid, Dell and TCI as well as representation of international leveraged buyout funds and securities firms. Before that, he served as Senior Partner of O'Sullivan Graev & Karabell LLP where he focused on work for Lotus and Motel 6 as well as major transactional work for private equity and leveraged buyout funds. Mr. Siegel began his career in 1980 as an Associate with Cravath Swaine & Moore.
Mr. Siegel is a member of the New York bar. He graduated from New York University with a J.D. degree in 1980 and received an A.B. degree from Cornell University in 1977.
