Dolce Hotels and Resorts, a privately held operator of 26 upscale hotels, resorts and conference hotels in Europe and North America, today announced the appointment of Philippe Attia, a 20-year veteran of the hotel and resort industry, as senior vice president, development-Europe Africa Middle East.

Based in Paris, he will be responsible for expanding the group’s presence across Europe and supporting the company’s global growth. Dolce’s newest property, the 255-room Dolce Munich Unterschleissheim hotel, is scheduled to open outside Munich, Germany, in April 2010.

Attia joined the company in 2000 as the general manager of Dolce Chantilly and was promoted in March 2003 to a dual role, managing director of Dolce Chantilly and regional director, South Europe. Dolce named him General Manager of the Year in 2003.

“Philippe Attia’s hands-on hotel, resort and conference center management experience and extensive industry relationships throughout EAME make him well-suited for this new role,” said Steven A. Rudnitsky, Dolce president and chief executive officer. “Dolce’s unique value proposition and track record of operational and marketing performance at its 26 properties in Europe and North America position the company for success in its quest to expand in key markets during 2010.”

Earlier in his career, Attia served Occidental Hotels & Resorts as general manager of three hotels in Morocco from 1998 to 2000 and two Four Star-rated hotels in Tunisia from 1997 to 1998. From 1996 to 1997 he was director of the water park at the Four Star-rated Wyndham Sugar Bay Beach Club & Resort in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.

From 1995 to 1996, he was hotel and club director for the Letoonia Hotel & Resort Club and Four Star-rated, 681-room Hotel Letoonia in Turkey. He was resident hotel manager for Club Med 2, a Four Star-rated, 420-passenger cruise ship, in 1994. He served Disneyland Paris as operations manager from 1991 to 1993. From 1986 to 1990, he was assistant general manager for Club Med, responsible for its resorts in Mexico, Italy, Indonesia and Florida.

He is a 1986 graduate of the Institut Europeen des Affaires (European Business Institute) in Paris, where he studied business and hospitality management and wrote a thesis entitled The Conception and Sales Strategy for a Resort. He earned a master’s of business administration degree in 2000 from Almeda University, an online teaching institution.

Attia earned various certifications at Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., including hospitality financial management in 1999, real estate, development and hotel investment in 2006 and advanced financial management of hotels in 2008. He received the Certified Hotel Administrator, or CHA, designation from the Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Lodging Association in 2001.
