Festival of international cuisine and lifestyle served up by celebrated chefs in Riyadh’s most renowned restaurant
Al Faisaliah Hotel, A Rosewood Hotel, which is owned by Al Khozama Management Company, has announced its inaugural Globe Summit, a culinary event which will take place in the hotel’s unrivalled restaurant The Globe from 21 to 25 February 2010. The Globe Summit is one of the activities that Al Faisaliah Hotel is holding to commemorate its 10th anniversary.
The inaugural Globe Summit will draw on the unrivalled experience from four celebrated chefs from Australia, France, Switzerland and the United States. The Globe, a geodesic sphere atop Al Faisaliah Tower, has long been Riyadh’s most prestigious dining destination and a beacon of gastronomic innovation for the Kingdom.
Chef Daniel Chambon of Le Pont de L’Ouysse in Lacave, France is an undisputed authority on andambassador for foie gras and truffles. In 1999, he was awarded Master Chef of France, and his restaurant received one-star honours from the Michelin Guide as well as three toques from the prestigious Gault Millau guide.
Chef Chambon will be joined by fellow Michelin-starred chef Bruno Davaillon, a native of France’s Loire Valley who received high acclaim as the Executive Chef at Allen Ducasse’s MIX at THE hotel at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Davaillon recently joined Rosewood Hotels & Resorts as Executive Chef for the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek and the iconic Mansion Restaurant in Dallas.
Flying into Riyadh from Australia for a greater international twist, Peter Doyle , one of the Australia’s best seafood chefs, will make his first trip to the Kingdom to showcase signature seafood dishes from his restaurant Est at The Establishment Hotel in Sydney, one of six restaurants in the city to be awarded Three Hats in the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide 2010.
Rounding out the group and bringing dessert into focus is Rolf Mürner, a Swiss national and pâtissier extraordinaire. The recipient of numerous awards including Patisserie World Champion in 2007, Mürner will bring his magical touch to The Globe and share delightful Swiss desserts with guests. He is a part of the Swiss Culinary National Team and runs his own company, Swiss Pastry Design.
“Riyadh’s dining scene celebrates diversity, and the city has been acknowledged as the Kingdom’s leading culinary destination, now moving to compete on a regional and global level,” said Peter Finamore, Managing Director of Al Faisaliah Hotel, A Rosewood Hotel. “At Al Faisaliah Hotel, we fully embrace this drive towards culinary greatness and wider recognition by hosting the Globe Summit, a one-of-a-kind event in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia bringing the best international chefs to Riyadh for a showcase of magnificent cuisine. Our guests and visitors will be able to interact personally with the chefs, ask questions and draw inspiration from them. This event will redefine the benchmark for culinary events in the Kingdom.”
The Globe Summit will start with a grand opening event on Sunday 21 February as the chefs from Al Faisaliah’s restaurants, The Globe, Cristal and La Brasserie, prepare a dinner combining the cuisine of each culinary outlet. Over five days, each guest chef takes the helm of The Globe kitchen to deliver an outstanding multi-course dinner. The event is capped off by a grand gala dinner on Thursday 25 February with contributions from all of the guest chefs for an explosion of flavours and tastes.
The event is more than just decadent dinners celebrating the heights of gastronomy. Each chef will also host a Studio Lunch for a more intimate feel, as well as interactive seminars for guests to get an up close and personal experience, such as the live preparation of truffle and foie gras from Daniel Chambord and the intricate creation of chocolate petit fours and Swiss pralines from Rolf Muerner.
Abdullah Olabi, CEO of La Wien Coffee Company will conduct a tasting of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, the rarest and most sought-after coffee in the world. Cigar activities sessions, a presentation of teas from a tea sommelier, and a tutorial on the best Arabic coffee and dates from the Kingdom and around the region will also be featured seminars.
After the chef dinners at The Globe, guests are invited for an exclusive look at luxury accessories and more from top retailers and brands. Harvey Nichols will demonstrate their latest fragrances, and La Vida Havana will present a cigar event.
A landmark at the heart of the city's Olaya district, Al Faisaliah Hotel, A Rosewood Hotel, owned by the Al Khozama Management Company, has been critically-acclaimed for the last ten years.
