The Stein Group has announced its acquisition of two more properties, the Villa Mangiacane in Tuscany and the Hotel Rodina in Sochi on the Black Sea.

Villa Mangiacane, Tuscany, Italy

Villa Mangiacane, set on a hill above Florence, is a magnificent 16th-century villa bearing the unmistakable hand of the Renaissance master Michelangelo. In the heart of the famed winemaking region of Chianto Classico, Villa Mangiacane consists of 26 lavish rooms and suites.

The villa, set amongst acres of vineyards and olive groves, produces its own wines and presses its own olive oil. The hotel overlooks a majestic forest toward the Arno Valley and the city of Florence which is a mere 12 kilometres away.

From the classically beautiful garden surrounding the villa that balances nature and art with Isaac Kaan’s bronze sculptures and Shona art to the 17th and 18th century frescoes that adorn the suites, Mangiacane’s guests are immersed in art history and culture. The Villa has an extensive library, a beautiful swimming pool set in one of its gardens, and an authentic Italian kitchen producing Tuscan cuisine served either al fresco or in the formal dining room.

Hotel Rodina, Sochi, Russian Riviera

Hotel Rodina, which means ‘Motherland’ in Russian, is located on the famed Russian Riviera in Sochi, an historic seaside resort on the Black Sea known for its botanical gardens, film festival and opera house. Set within 15 hectares of wooded gardens that lead down to a private beach club, the hotel has dramatic views of the sea, Caucasus Mountains and the official summer residence of the Russian president. The resort was originally created by Joseph Stalin in the 1950’s as a retreat for the party elite. Stalin personally selected the best location in what has been the traditional resort for rich and powerful Russians for more than two centuries. The architecture of the hotel is a mix of contemporary and classic, with large arched windows similar to those at Gran Hotel La Florida, The Stein Group’s urban resort in Barcelona, Spain.

Hotel Rodina will open in May 2006 with 42 luxurious rooms and suites, some with private terrace Jacuzzis, two restaurants for casual and fine dining, a piano bar and a library bar. In addition there will be a private cinema; a cigar room located in a bomb shelter built half a century ago and a billiard room. During the summer months the roof-top terrace of the hotel will have a lounge bar and an al fresco casual dining area. By next fall there will also be a 4,500m² spa surrounded by lush gardens, with oversized indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a fully-equipped gym and an extensive spa treatment area and indoor-outdoor restaurant serving spa cuisine. The resort will also have tennis and basketball courts, a helicopter pad, beach club and boathouse. In 2007 the hotel will open a further 37 luxurious guestrooms and suites.
