ROKA, London's award winning casual and social Japanese Robata concept, is now open at Hong Kong exclusive Pacific Place Mall.
ROKA Hong Kong follows hot on the heels of ROKA group successful launch in The Venetian Macao Resort Hotel in Macao last year. With a total of four restaurants around the world, ROKA was originally launched in London in 2004, and then Scottsdale in Arizona in February 2008.
ROKA is derived from two words: RO and KA. RO means a hearth or gathering place where people meet to socialize and enjoy food and drinks. KA stands for a burning fire, projecting a welcoming and energetic atmosphere.
Taking the Japanese dining experience beyond sashimi, sushi and tempura, ROKA focuses on the power at the heart of the ROKA concept and the area from which all energy flows, the Japanese Robata grill.
Located at the basement level of Pacific Place, the 6,000 square foot venue seats up to 155 people, including 21 at the Robata counter and 7 at the bar. The restaurant features a wine cellar housing over 500 bottles of premium wines from around the world, including a selection of 18 wines served by the glass, as well as a feature stacked charcoal pillar transforming charcoal, normally used for the Robata grill, into art.
Charcoal-grilled quality meats, poultry, seafood and seasonal vegetables are complemented by signature sauces and served from the open Robata grill, in full view of diners at the counter and surrounding tables.
Signature dishes include delicious meats from the Robata charcoal grill such as Kochijan fuumi no kohitsuji - Lamb cutlets with hot pepper spices and Gindara saikyo-zuke no kushiyaki – Black cod skewers with gingered saikyo miso. Menu items also include a choice of Robata skewers as well as tempting Robata vegetables served fresh from the grill.
In addition to the Robata items, the menu includes market-fresh sashimi and maki sushi rolls along with a selection of unique ROKA snacks, salads, rice and noodles, as well as specialties such as a range of donburi and gyoza dishes.
Creative home-made desserts leave customers wanting more with options such as Ichigo to jasmine no sundae, yuzu gouri – Strawberry, jasmine sundae with yuzu granite.
Roka's bar is ideal for a quick lunch or a gathering with friends, whether for an after-work drink or a light snack. Freshly made cocktails, non-alcoholic cleansers and signature shochu$B!G(Bs are simply divine. To-die-for cocktails include Okinawa breeze – a mixture of watermelon, lychee yuzu and shochu and Cosumo – a simple yet delightful blood orange and apple cosmopolitan.
Shochu, an ancient Japanese spirit distilled from several raw materials such as barley, buckwheat, sugar or sweet potato, is the inspiration behind the restaurant$B!G(Bs house infused well-being tonics. ROKA customizes its own shochu, which are distilled from barley, by macerating seasonal fruits and herbs to enhance its natural taste. The bar offers a fabulous array of both traditional cocktails and those blended with signature shochu tonics. A selection of sake from various regions of Japan plus an international selection of premium spirits are also available.
ROKA is minimally styled and inspired by the four elements of Earth, Fire, Water and Air by Japanese designer Noriyoshi Muramatsu of the esteemed Tokyo design firm Studio Glitt. Muramatsu has created stunning look using materials and design elements symbolic of the Japanese Charcoal Robata grill combining natural organic materials such as wood, soil, rice paper, rock and rusted iron.
The concept of ROKA is authentic but not traditional, with the restaurant emphasizing ingredients and flavour, simple and appealing presentation using ethnic Japanese crockery and a menu designed for sharing.
At ROKA Hong Kong we created a casual, informal and sociable dining experience with a vibrant and energetic atmosphere said Rainer Becker, the award-winning chef, who co-founded the concept with the Waney family.
ROKA Hong Kong is open daily from 11.30am – 10.30pm.
