Hilton Gdańsk planned to open in 2010
Hilton Hotels Corporation (HHC) has today announced that a franchise agreement has been entered into with Jan Wojcikiewicz-Hotele for a new Hilton property in Gdańsk, Poland. Scheduled to open by mid 2010, the upscale, full service hotel will become HHC’s third property in Poland, marking the company’s continued expansion into the country.
“Today’s announcement cements our intention and commitment to grow our presence in Poland, as we look to add 20 Hilton Family hotels over the next five years” explained Wolfgang M. Neumann, President of Hilton Hotels - Europe. “With our first Hilton hotel already successfully operating in Warsaw and a new Hilton Garden Inn planned to launch in the city of Rzeszow in 2009, we firmly believe that there is huge potential for hotel growth in key cities across Poland.”
Neumann added: “Gdańsk’s position as Poland’s principal seaport makes it an important strategic hub connecting Western and Eastern Europe, as well as providing important links to Central Europe and Scandinavia. This has fuelled strong demand for hotel accommodation in the business segment, whilst the city’s historic Old Town, impressive coastal scenery and increasing number of direct flights are helping to attract a growing number of leisure travellers to the area. As a result we see significant opportunity in this market given the relative lack of internationally branded, upscale hotel rooms”.
Jan Wójcikiewicz, the owner of Jan Wójcikiewicz-Hotele, commented: “We are delighted to be working with one of the world’s most recognised hotel brands. With Hilton’s global presence and experience, combined with our expertise and knowledge of operating in the Polish market, we are confident that Hilton Gdańsk will become one of the top hotels in the city.”
Located on the southern coast of Gdańsk Bay on the Baltic Sea, Gdańsk is one of Poland’s largest cities with a population of over one million inhabitants. The new build hotel, which will occupy a prime city centre location on the banks of the River Motlowa, offers 150 guest rooms and is designed to compliment the historic architecture of the city.
When it opens in 2010, Hilton Gdańsk will offer a 700m² spa facility, featuring treatment rooms, sauna, Hilton Fitness By Precor® gym and rooftop swimming pool and terrace. The hotel will provide one of the largest MICE facilities in the city with over 1000m2 of flexible conference and meeting space, a 24 hour Hilton business centre and complimentary parking. The hotel will also feature a range of dining options, including a restaurant and bar complete with river views.
Hilton has named Poland as one of its key development regions, joining Russia, the UK & Ireland, Iberia, Italy, Germany and Turkey as core strategic areas for the introduction of the Hilton Family of hotels in Europe. Today’s news reflects the dynamic growth across Poland and over the next five years the company anticipates it will introduce more than 20 Hilton Family hotels across the country.
Last year Hilton launched its first hotel in Poland with the opening of the 314 room Hilton Warsaw Hotel and Convention Centre. The company also plans to debut its mid-priced Hilton Garden Inn brand in the southern city of Rzeszow in 2009. Earlier this month the company announced the opening of two new Spanish properties, Hilton Madrid Airport and Hilton Sa Torre Mallorca, taking its European portfolio to a total of 85 hotels.
In addition to the two new Spanish properties, HHC expects to introduce a further ten new hotels across continental Europe in 2008, in addition to a ‘re-launch’ of the renowned Rome Cavalieri hotel, which is expected to re-open its doors under The Waldorf=Astoria Collection banner this spring.
