IHG’s Hotel Management Group receives Gold Halo Award for its “Chase the Extraordinary” program

IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) [Lon: IHG; NYSE: IHG (ADRs)], one of the world's largest hotel groups by number of rooms, announced today that The Hotel Management Group, the company's Americas Operations division, was awarded the Gold Halo Award for Best Environmental / Wildlife Campaign for its 2007 "Chase the Extraordinary" program from the Cause Marketing Forum.

The Cause Marketing Halo Awards were presented at a luncheon on May 29 at the Cause Marketing Forum Conference in Chicago.

"We are honored to receive the Gold Halo Award for Best Environmental / Wildlife Campaign from the Cause Marketing Forum," said Tom Murray, COO, the Americas, IHG. "The Chase the Extraordinary campaign gave us the opportunity to implement best practices and innovative initiatives for our guests, owners and communities at more than 200 company-managed hotels."

Over nearly six months, the "Chase the Extraordinary" program reached more than 30 states and 12 countries and included employee rallies to launch new company initiatives for 2007 and beyond. The cornerstone of the program was an environmental initiative to replace more than 250,000 incandescent light bulbs with new energy-efficient compact fluorescent lights (CFL) in guest rooms at company-managed hotels across the Americas region. This environmental initiative will have the impact of removing the equivalent of more than 17,000 cars and their carbon dioxide emissions from American highways. Over the life of the CFL bulbs, these hotels will save over $5 million in energy costs.

Also, as part of the program an additional 15,000 CFLs were distributed to employees of company-managed properties for use in their homes so they could have the opportunity to adopt the same practice that was implemented at the hotels.

IHG partnered with TCP, Inc., on the new environmental initiative. TCP, Inc., an industry-leading lighting innovator and manufacturer of energy-efficient CFLs, is based in Ohio.
