InterContinental Hotels Group E-Commerce Strategy Awarded For Innovation In Reaching Consumers

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) [LON: IHG, NYSE: IHG (ADRs)], the world's largest hotel group by number of rooms, was recognized by Keynote Systems, the Internet Performance Authority®, and the American Marketing Association for the company’s success in reaching consumers online.


The Holiday Inn® Hotels & Resorts Web site, created in 1995 as the industry’s first online channel for hotel reservations, earned the Keynote Hotel Web Transaction Index - Availability Award. Keynote Systems recognized www.holiday-inn.com for its consistency and reliability as an online reservation channel for consumers.


Holiday Inn’s Keynote Systems award was based on a set of industry-leading indices that measure the speed and availability for clicking through a multi-step business transaction. This year Keynote Systems honored the fastest and most available Web sites in nine online categories, including hotel.


"Our guests want and expect a reliable, easy and secure online experience for making their reservations, and every day we strive to exceed our guests' expectations,” said Del Ross, vice president, Global E-Commerce Services. “By delivering what our guests want in online service, we've built tremendous guest loyalty and have grown the proportion of Internet revenue delivered to our sites from 78 percent to 85 percent in June 2005. Being recognized by Keynote Systems validates that our efforts are well-placed."


Locally, Holiday Inn also earned the American Marketing Association’s Silver Atlanta Marketer of the Year Award for its June consumer email, which unveiled the world’s largest online sale. The sale marked IHG’s 10th anniversary as the first hotel company to enable its guests to book hotel rooms online.




Hotel Indigo, the first lifestyle boutique hotel in the category created by IHG, earned the American Marketing Association’s Gold Atlanta Marketer of the Year Award. Hotel Indigo was recognized for its monthly emails, which connect with consumers who opted into the Hotel Indigo email list since the hotel’s Web site debuted in 2004.


The Atlanta Marketer of the Year Awards recognize Atlanta’s elite marketing programs created by area agencies and businesses. They focus on creative execution and achievement of defined goals and creative strategy.


In 1995, IHG became the first hotel company to offer guests the ability to reserve rooms online, and the company’s E-Commerce initiatives now generate more than $1.4 billion in annual revenues. In the past 10 years, IHG’s Web sites have been used to confirm more than 15 million bookings totaling 32 million room nights, delivering more than $3.7 billion in cumulative gross revenues.
