Tennessee's Only Five-Star Hotel, The Hermitage, Offers Free Gasoline Cards to Guests This Summer

People who stay in five-star hotels don't worry about the price of gas. Right?

Well, that's not how Tennessee's only Mobil Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond hotel sees it. Just in time for the summer travel season, The Hermitage Hotel here is providing its guests with free gasoline cards when they visit between June 9 and September 1.

"Many of our guests arrive by plane, of course, especially people in the entertainment industry from the West or East coasts. But, we have a lot of guests from nearby cities in the South and Midwest -- places like Atlanta, Louisville, St. Louis and Birmingham -- who find it more convenient to drive to Nashville.

"These are often long-time clients, many of whom come to Nashville just to enjoy the personal attention and indulgent luxury of a stay with us. Because these are extraordinary times for drivers, we decided to do something extraordinary for these guests," said Director of Sales and Marketing Janet Kurtz.

Thus was born the "Luxury Road Trip Getaway," which includes a free $25 gasoline card for each of the first two nights of your stay -- a total of $50 worth of fuel -- plus a $40 discount on the hotel's standard room rate. (Though there is nothing "standard" about a room in this hotel.)

And there's even a special perk for drivers of hybrid vehicles: free valet parking the first night, a $24 savings.

Just how much could a guest save by driving to The Hermitage Hotel this summer? Well, the $50 gasoline card alone -- not including the other discounts -- would more than pay for the drive to Nashville from within a 250-mile radius, according to the American Automobile Association's "Fuel Cost Calculator" (at www.fuelcostcalculator.com).

Below are the total fuel costs, based on $3.80 per gallon, for driving a standard full-size car, a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, to Nashville from select cities within 250 miles:

-- Atlanta, Ga.: $45.96
-- Lexington, Ky.: $40.15
-- Memphis, Tenn.: $39.76
-- Birmingham, Ala.: $35.30
-- Knoxville, Tenn.: $33.32
-- Louisville, Ky.: $32.92

And the total $90 discount -- $50 gasoline card plus $40 room discount -- would pay for the drive to Nashville from cities almost 500 miles away, such as:

-- Chicago, Ill.: $90.72
-- Pensacola, Fla.: $83.44
-- Mobile, Ala.: $83.37
-- Jackson, Miss.: $77.15
-- Charlotte, N.C.: $73.87
-- Little Rock, Ark.: $64.87
-- Greenville, S.C.: $64.03
-- St. Louis, Mo.: $56.66
-- Cincinnati, Ohio: $52.36

Featuring 122 rooms and suites, The Hermitage Hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places and on an elite list of 28 hotels, resorts and inns in North America and Mexico to hold both the Mobil Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond designation.
