The day I entered the Regent Santa Monica for the first time, itwas bustling with activity,as they were getting ready for their opening ceremony that evening.
Everyone inside was racing about to ensure every detail was perfect, while an orchestra was practicing outside, and a red carpet was being set up in front of the property.
Stepping into the grand foyer, the harmonious blend of coastal serenity and luxurious design immediately enveloped me.
A grand return to America
The Regent brand, renowned for its legacy of luxury, has made a triumphant return to the United States with this flagship property. Located just steps from the iconic Santa Monica Pier, the hotel offers guests panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, seamlessly blending the glamour of Los Angeles with the tranquillity of beachfront living.
The open-air, high-ceiling lobby can be looked down on from all the floors. As you make your way through the entrance, on one side you will find the reception and the corridor leading to the gift shop and on the other side the pool and the spa access as well as further on Orla and Orla bar. The bar’s flowers, golden hues from the lighting, and seating at the end face a large window overlooking the ocean.
Culinary delights
Dining at the Regent is an experience in itself. Orla by Michael Mina offers a menu that celebrates coastal flavours. At the same time, the Sweet July Café, founded by Ayesha Curry, provides a delightful array of handcrafted beverages and dishes inspired by California's vibrant farmers markets. For those seeking a relaxed atmosphere, the Azure Bar presents an ideal setting to enjoy creative cocktails against the backdrop of the setting sun.
Wellness and rejuvenation
The 10,000 sq ft Guerlain Wellness Spa is a sanctuary of relaxation. As the European brand's first on the Western Seaboard, it offers personalised treatments in a setting that marries coastal California aesthetics with Mediterranean elegance.
The spa's entrance is a serene shop of Guerlain products and a pre-treatment relaxation lounge. Upon entering the treatment area, you will find the changing rooms before reaching the plunge pool, sauna and steam room, which lead to the treatment relaxation lounge and champagne room. The spa's amenities provide a holistic wellness approach with 12 treatment rooms. Outside, the Azure pool faces the ocean, surrounded by white and gold accents. The Fitness Center is also home to various strength and cardio machines.
Elegance in every detail
The hotel's design is a testament to refined taste. The 167 spacious guestrooms, starting at an impressive 720 square feet, are inspired by the ocean, creating a serene ambiance. Each room features spa-like bathrooms equipped with soaking tubs, walk-in rain showers, and premium Perricone MD amenities, ensuring a restful retreat after a day of exploration.
Upstairs, between bedrooms and meeting rooms, guests can find The Lounge, where they can work, and The Atelier, the hotel’s salon.
