Stellar Works might be more confidential than your iconic and trendy furniture brand, but they managed, in the last decade, to seduce hoteliers with timeless pieces and the right blend of minimalism, character and functionality.
Founded in 2012 by Yuichiro Hori, Stellar Works aims to maintain its excellence while growing with more design collaborations and continuing to deliver bespoke furniture for some of the world’s most iconic hospitality projects. AJ-Audrius Juodzbalis, Brand Director for Stellar Works, has a deep-rooted passion for architecture, design, and fashion, and he shared with Journal des Palaces the essence of the brand and the vision.

Journal des Palaces: What's the story behind Stellar Works ?

AJ-Audrius Juodzbalis: Picture this: It's 2012, in bustling Shanghai, where a group of Japanese visionary minds, deeply inspired by the harmonious blend of Eastern and Western design, set out on a mission. Thus, the same year Stellar Works was born in Milan Design Week, weaving together the essence of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian allure into a distinctive tapestry of furniture craftsmanship.
Our journey began modestly, nestled in a boutique workshop, where each piece was meticulously crafted with an artisan's touch. Fast-forward through the years, and Stellar Works has become synonymous with excellence, capturing the attention of design aficionados worldwide and captivating a global audience in design capitals like London, Milan, New York, Shanghai and Tokyo.

Which three words would you use to define the brand?

If I were to distil the essence of Stellar Works into three words, they would be: timeless, craft, and cultured. Our creations are not merely furniture; they are timeless artefacts, crafted with unparalleled skill and imbued with a cultural sophistication that transcends borders.

What was the vision behind the brand?

At our brand's core lies a vision: to bridge the aesthetic gap between East and West, crafting furniture that enriches lives and transcends generations. Inspired by the Japandi movement, we create pieces resonating with simplicity, timelessness, and sustainability. Through collaborations with esteemed designers like Neri&Hu, Yabu Pushelberg, and Space Copenhagen, we breathe life into spaces seamlessly blending tradition with innovation.

Who are your clients?

Our clientele is as diverse as our designs. From luxury hospitality icons to avant-garde architects shaping tomorrow's skylines, we have the privilege of collaborating with those who demand nothing but the best. Our furniture graces the interiors of top-tier urban properties affiliated with renowned chains like Marriott, IHG, Hilton, and Hyatt, elevating guest experiences with unparalleled comfort and style in boutique hotels and galleries.

Can you tell us more about your collaborations with luxury hotels and restaurants?

When it comes to luxury hospitality and dining, Stellar Works is the name on everyone's lips. Our furniture adorns the most illustrious establishments worldwide, from the Capella Hotel in Shanghai, Rosewood in Phnon Penh, W Hotel in Brisbane to Noma in Copenhagen, Four Seasons in Kuwait or 11 Howard in New York. Currently, you can find our pieces in more than 2000 high-end restaurants and hotels globally. With a portfolio of multiple award-winning projects and products, we are the trusted partner for creating stunning but functional and comfortable environments that captivate and inspire.

How do you collaborate with interior designer on their projects?

Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. We work closely with interior designers and architects to bring their visions to life, from boutique schemes to large-scale projects. Our dedication to quality ensures that every piece, whether from our signature collections or bespoke creations, reflects the highest standards of craftsmanship and design integrity.
The process typically begins with design consultation, budgeting, sourcing, and material consistency, especially for hospitality projects. Additionally, we excel in value engineering, ensuring alignment with clients' budget requirements without compromising quality. We take pride in ensuring excellence with Stellar Works' international brand standard engineering and Japanese quality control, as well as provide a comprehensive one-stop service.

How do you choose the designers you're working with?

When choosing designers to collaborate with, we seek out creative minds who share our passion for cultural fusion and innovation. Our selection process is rigorous, prioritising expertise, cultural sensitivity, and a collaborative spirit. The result? Fresh perspectives that breathe new life into our collections, ensuring that Stellar Works remains at the forefront of design innovation.

How do you innovate, in terms of products and services, and maintain the level of excellence?

Excellence isn't just a goal; it's our guiding principle. Through a relentless pursuit of innovation, we push boundaries in both products and services.
