The Hotel Steigenberger Belvédère in Davos, which plays a key role in the prominent summit, the World Economic Forum (WEF), has been extensively renovated and altered. The investment focussed on the rooms and bathrooms of this grand hotel, all of which have been remodelled along with the reception area. The restaurant, lounge, balcony and hotel drive will all be modernised by the middle of 2008.

The Steigenberger Belvédère has invested 6.5 million Euros in carrying out extensive alteration and renovation work, ensuring that this five-star hotel is primed and ready for the next World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2008. 71 rooms have been remodelled and some have been extended, reducing the total number of rooms from 131 to 127. In terms of style, the new room concept reflects the twin themes of Grand Hotel and Mountains. Black oak and white bleached pine, leather, woven carpets and curtains, elegant upholstered furniture and gleaming chrome all combine in classic Alpine style. In the bathroom, brown-black natural stone contrasts with light-coloured tiles to create a harmonious atmosphere. The classically elegant interior design was devised by Swiss-based designer Claudio Carbone.

His trademark style can also be seen in the reception area: the domed ceiling above the reception desk has a shimmering gold finish. Below it hangs an eye-catching glass picture – a work by the Vorarlberg artist Johannes Kaufmann, who borrowed details from four pictures by the Expressionist artist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, including a self-portrait, and put them together in a new work of art. The choice of Kirchner was a deliberate one: Davos is also famous for its Kirchner Museum.

With these changes the Steigenberger Belvédère has been able to strengthen its position as the main hotel in the centre of Davos and during the World Economic Forum 2008 it will once again play host to business leaders, politicians and personalities from around the world. The five-star hotel is one of the most commercially successful resort hotels in all Switzerland.
