We are thrilled to introduce Pemako Hotels, the first Bhutanese-owned and managed luxury hotel group, comprising of thoughtfully curated hotels – opulent tented villas immersed in nature in Punakha and an urban sanctuary located in Thimphu.

Pemako, which translates to "hidden lotus-shaped land", is a world whose rich stories are inspired by the beyul, the remote sanctuary of the Himalayas. It is a realm that invites world-weary explorers to discover the journey within.

Bhutan, a real bucket list experience for many travellers, is one of the world’s most beautiful and peaceful destinations emphasising happiness and sustainable practices, an ethos mirrored by Pemako Hotels. Offering a profound stillness where time is forgotten, Pemako grounds the body and clears the mind, while Bhutanese traditions bring a sense of humility and spiritual value to ease guests’ experience.

Each unique property is one-of-a-kind destination, set amongst magnificent natural surroundings. They are beautifully infused with traditional Bhutanese essence – which is reflected across their unique design, palatable culinary offerings and warm hospitality.

Pemako, Punakha

Flagship hotel Pemako Punakha is celebrated as a milestone property within Bhutan’s hospitality industry, as it showcases the brand’s vision and concept to highlight Bhutan’s rich heritage and culture within its own architecture and design. It is nestled by the Mo Chhu River in the quaint town of Punakha, known for its signature arrival experience set out by crossing a bridge strung with fluttering prayer flags, followed by a short yet scenic ride to the haven.

The property offers an immersive experience of Bhutan’s vibrant culture into the fertile Punakha valley, recognised for its year-round temperate climate, Buddhist festivals, and the sublime Punakha Dzong.

With conceptual designs by renowned architect Bill Bensley, and spread across 60 acres of untouched land, the property boasts a beautiful collection of 19 luxury tented villas, 1 two-bedroom tented villa and 1 presidential tented villa - each privately placed and uniting seamlessly with the beauty of nature.

Offering the rare opportunity to think and feel more deeply, each tented villa is a plush hideaway, where time slows and almost ceases to matter, opulently designed, with a private temperature-controlled pool - the first hotel in the country to offer this. Each tent is thoughtfully accompanied by a sprawling outdoor deck, breath-taking valley views and curated artisanal souvenirs placed across the room, sharing deep insights into the lively culture of Bhutan.

Guests can participate in mindful meditation sessions led by the resident Buddhist monk, enjoy yoga amidst breath-taking mountain landscapes, or embark on an exhilarating white-water rafting adventure down the Mo Chhu River. Whether seeking tranquillity or excitement, every traveller is sure to find a uniquely awakening experience.

For those looking to relax and reconnect with their bodies, The Lotus Realm Spa offers exquisite wellness sessions with treatments that embrace age-old Bhutanese practices with a skilled touch of Dungtshos, traditional medicine doctors.

Fresh organic, local produce and traditional delights are at the forefront of Pemako Punakha’s unique culinary experience and guests will have the opportunity to embark on a sensory culinary journey. From tantalising authentic Bhutanese delacacies at Alchemy House, to savouring international cuisine at all-day dining restaurant, Soma. What sets Pemako apart even further is its diverse range of private dining experiences from intimate chef tables to picnics on the deck, guests are spoilt for choice for magic intimate moments.

Strategically located right at the heart of the capital city, Pemako Thimphu evokes the aura of a medieval fortress, where timeless traditions blend effortlessly with modern luxury. The recently rebranded hotel is an architectural wonder blending traditional Bhutanese architecture with contemporary modern living. Its exquisitely designed rooms and suites offer breathtaking views of the surrounding hillside and pristine Himalayan forests form the Thimphu Valley, providing a serene retreat.
