The growing demand for “Butlers” (“Majordome” in french) is one convincing example of this. Prestigious hotels, yachts, along with large private houses are increasingly enlisting the services of a butler, male as well as female. Several institutions across the globe offer quality courses for students eager to be professionally trained in the tasks of a butler and to fulfil this special role often referred to as a “personal assistant”. So who is this "butler"?He can be likened to the conductor of an orchestra, responsible for the smooth running of a house or the proper follow-up of hotel guests, facilitating their stay whenever and wherever possible. He is also the link between his "boss" and the staff at his service. The butler ensures the smooth running of daily life - travel, receptions, logistics - and the management of the premises, of linen, etc. He takes on many tasks which require not only know-how but also impeccable “savoir-être”. (A French term which literally means “knowing how to be”, in other words, having the interpersonal skills to adapt and adjust one’s behaviour in response to different situations). This “savoir-être” is not limited to maintaining a perfect appearance from morning to evening;it also requires precise knowledge of etiquette, protocol, tableware and service, communication, diplomacy, and the behavioural codes of "service attitude".
Human qualities such as empathy, respect, tolerance, adaptability, flexibility, confidentiality and a sense of duty will make a butler "the rare pearl" that wealthy customers dream of finding when looking for their "butler". Besides certain establishments offering several week-long courses for aspiring butlers, there are also shorter and more intensive training courses for those who are already in the hotel sector or in personal service professions. People in these professions may consider retraining or further training to enable them to apply for jobs advertised by international recruitment agencies working with VIP clients. AD Excellence provides not only the specific know-how and the necessary interpersonal skills that comprise “savoir-être”, but also the specific preparation needed to become a butler; delivering one-to-one or one-to-two classes, as well as a group training course for excellence in the profession. The course will take place in Montpellier from June 29thto July 3rd. Learning how to fulfil a butler’s special and unique role will help our participants stack the odds in their favour as they look for openings into this exclusive sector, which grants access only to those who master excellence in service.
