InterContinental Hotels Group [LON: IHG, NYSE: IHG (ADRs)] (IHG), the world’s largest hotel group by number of rooms, announced today plans for its first Hotel Indigo™ in Fort Myers. Fla. (USA), scheduled to break ground this quarter and open by year-end 2007. Hotel Indigo Fort Myers-Historic River District will be the first new construction hotel within the historic district in 20 years.
The new, seven-story branded boutique property will be owned by DOC Fort Myers II, LLC and managed by DOC Hospitality, LLC, under a license agreement with a company in the InterContinental Hotels Group.
“This downtown development will be the first multi-story project of its’ kind in the newly formed Fort Myers’ Historic River District,” said Jim Anhut, senior vice president, Brand Development, the Americas, InterContinental Hotels Group. “The hotel will be connected to the recently renovated Post Office Arcade Building, a Certified Historic Rehabilitation project, and a key landmark in the historic district,” he added.
The soul of Hotel Indigo’s retail-inspired concept is renewal – thoughtful changes that are made throughout the year to keep the hotel fresh, similar to the way retailers change their window displays. Hotel Indigo Fort Myers will house 62 guestrooms that will feature renewable elements such as vivid photographic murals, area rugs, plush duvets and slip covers that will change periodically. Public spaces will be transformed seasonally through changing artwork, music, flora, murals and directional signage.
The Hotel Indigo Fort Myers will also feature signature design elements including oversized lobby chairs, which create a personal work or dining space within the public areas of the hotel; cozy, airy and inviting guestrooms with plush bedding, hardwood-style flooring and spa-style showers; a rooftop fitness studio with cardio equipment and free weights. The hotel will also offer two boardrooms and a rooftop outdoor pool. Complimentary wireless high-speed Internet access is available throughout the hotel.
The hotel’s bistro-style restaurant, The Golden Bean, will offer seasonal, health-conscious fare for breakfast as well as Starbucks coffee. At PHI Bar, a fundamental departure from the norm, guests can enjoy their favorite beverage in casual elegance. The evening menu will include fresh salads, pizzettas, Panini sandwiches, and other trend forward entrees. Food is prepared quickly for the time-conscious traveler who wishes to eat in their room or relax in one of the hotel’s signature oversized lobby chairs.
The site of Hotel Indigo Fort Myers-Historic River District is situated at the center of downtown and is surrounded by businesses ranging from boutiques, restaurants and cafes to antique stores and jewelers. The hotel is just minutes from Centennial Park, a popular place for visitors and residents to gather for concerts and other functions, as well as the Boston Red Sox Spring Training Stadium, Edison & Ford Winter Estates and Fort Myers Historical Museum.
“Fort Myers is one of the largest cities in Southwest Florida, and we are thrilled to be the city’s first branded boutique hotel,” said Debbie Clark, In.keeper, Hotel Indigo Fort Myers. “We look forward to greeting our first guests and amazing them with our personalized service and intriguing design and decor.”
