Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong Celebrates Its Return With An Exclusive Gala Party

Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong celebrated its re-entry into local society yesterday with a private gala attended by more than 500 celebrities, dignitaries and society guests.

The list of international celebrities who made the evening’s red carpet entrance included musician Vanessa-Mae, fashion icons Vivienne Tam and Kenzo, renowned author Frederick Forsyth, global entrepreneur David Tang and esteemed architect I.M. Pei. Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group Chief Executive Edouard Ettedgui and the hotel’s General Manager Peter French, welcomed guests to the gala which began in the hotel’s legendary lobby to the sounds of the Oriental Angels from Shanghai.

World renowned Australian comic Dame Edna Everage opened the proceedings with a selection of amusing anecdotes to set the scene. Guests were then escorted to a lavish gourmet dinner with tantalising creations prepared by executive chef Sean O’Connell. A dragon dance called guests back to the lobby for a spectacular private performance by international star and Mandarin Oriental fan Bryan Ferry.

The evening’s festivities continued with live jazz and dancing in The Captain’s Bar to the sounds of New York singer, pianist and songwriter, Tony DeSare.
