InterContinental Sacramento breaks ground on what will be the first truly international luxury hotel in the Sacramento market and Northern California’s third InterContinental Hotels & Resorts property. Projected to open in mid 2008, the InterContinental Sacramento will be part of the tallest mixed-use skyscraper in Sacramento at the foot of the State Capitol. The InterContinental Sacramento will join its sister hotels, the renowned InterContinental Mark Hopkins, San Francisco and the InterContinental San Francisco which is under construction and projected to open late 2007.
The InterContinental Sacramento, located at 301 Capitol Mall, will be part of a two-tower, 54-story mixed used development named The Towers on Capitol Mall. This development will be the tallest skyscraper in Sacramento. The hotel will occupy the first 16-floors in tower one with 230 guestrooms. Luxury residences will occupy the remaining 38-floors of tower one and all 54-floors of tower two. All guests and residents will have access to the property’s luxurious amenities.
“InterContinental Hotels & Resorts continues to be in the must-consider set for developers and customers alike,” said Kirk Kinsell, SVP and chief development officer, InterContinental Hotels Group, the Americas. “The brand has five hotels in its Americas pipeline and research has shown that U.S. citizens are our most frequent guests worldwide, so expanding our portfolio in key markets throughout the U.S. to meet their domestic needs makes sense.”
One of the best addresses in town, the InterContinental Sacramento is an ideal destination for both business and leisure travelers. The property will be within walking distance to the Sacramento Convention Center, Old Town Sacramento and the State Capitol building. Westfield Downtown Plaza shopping center is adjacent to the property.
“Because InterContinental Hotels & Resorts is a brand that is known for providing guests with unique, authentic and enriching local experiences, it was important for us to partner with a developer who understands the Sacramento community,” said Kinsell. “With over 40 years of experience in Sacramento, we knew Saca Development and John Saca were the right partners to help us deliver the city’s first truly international luxury property – the InterContinental Sacramento.”
The InterContinental Sacramento will be owned by Saca Development and managed by InterContinental Hotels Group, under a license agreement with an InterContinental Hotels Group company.
InterContinental Sacramento amenities will include:
Panoramic views overlooking downtown Sacramento and beyond
More than 15,000 sq. ft. of meeting and function space
Lobby-level upscale restaurant and bar
Full-service business center
Exclusive Club InterContinental lounge with food and beverage served all day
State-of-the-art technology in guest rooms, meeting space and public areas

12,000 sq. ft. world-class spa and beauty salon
Sacramento’s only rooftop pool
More than 60,000 sq. ft. of high-end retail shops and restaurants
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts continues to grow its presence in the Americas region. Recently opened properties include: the InterContinental Buckhead, Atlanta; the InterContinental Merida, Mexico; the InterContinental Playa Bonita Resort & Spa, Panama; the InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza and the InterContinental Harbor Court, Baltimore.
