Tree-planting initiative supports global commitment to sustainability.

Four Seasons Hotel Beirut has chosen Lebanon’s Independence Week to plant 333 cedar trees, resembling the national emblem on Lebanon’s flag and portraying its dedication to supporting the local community and providing a better sustainable future locally.

In coalition with the Al-Shouf Cedar Natural Reserve, 35 employees from the Hotel joined the effort to plant cedars at an altitude of 2000 metres (6500 feet) above sea level and in Lebanon’s most beautiful cedar forest at Maasser Al-Shouf.

The Hotel’s cedar planting project supports the corporate commitment to planting 10 Million Trees worldwide, communicating its commitment to CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility).

“Our cedar planting initiative shows our commitment to the local community, working hand in hand with local organisations to enhance overall human life quality. With this initiative we are supporting the reforestation in the Green Mountains, which are one of Lebanon’s great treasures,” says Stefan Simkovics, general manager, Four Seasons Hotel Beirut. “A man does not plant a tree for himself; he plants it for prosperity – a quote that says it all. This is a beginning for communicating corporate citizenship, sustainability and social responsibility and it is as well a start for a long term relationship with Lebanon’s natural environment with more activities to come in the future."

About Al-Shouf Cedar Natural Reserve

The Shouf biosphere reserve is the largest of Lebanon’s nature reserves, occupying five percent of the country. Some trees at the reserve are estimated to be 3000 years old, one of them named after the French poet Alphonse de Lamartine, who was a great admirer of the Shouf cedar trees and visited the forest regularly. Al-Shouf is blanketed with oak forests on its northeastern slopes and juniper and oak forests on its southeastern slopes, and the reserve’s most famous attractions are the three magnificent cedar forests of Maasser Al-Shouf, Barouk and Ain Zhalta - Bmohary. These cedar forests account for a quarter of the remaining cedar forest in Lebanon. From the summit of rugged mountains, on a clear day visitors will have a panoramic view of the countryside, eastward to the Beqa’a Valley and Qaraoun Lake, and westward the Mediterranean Sea.

Four Seasons of Preservation: Supporting Sustainability

10 Million Trees is the newest initiative in the company’s longstanding commitment to supporting sustainability. Four Seasons involves employees and guests in the common goal of preserving and protecting the planet and strives to conserve natural resources and reduce environmental impact. Sustainable tourism that enhances and protects the destinations where the company operates is a key focus.

Further details of the company’s programs in the areas of local farming, wildlife conservation, environmental programs, recycling, waste management and energy conservation can be found on the new Living Values website. In addition, the company’s extensive efforts in building communities and advancing cancer research are also chronicled on the Living Values website.

Four Seasons will fund the planting of one tree for every Gift Card sold, either online or in its hotels and resorts around the world. It's a good way to share one's love for nature and a loved one.
