Executive Chef Frank Widmer hosts exclusive gourmet event in Switzerland
From 27 to 30 September 2011, Frank Widmer, executive chef at Park Hyatt Zurich, celebrates the Park Hyatt Masters of Food & Wine event in cooperation with the Swiss group “Junge Schweiz – Neue Winzer” (Young Switzerland – New Wine Makers), whose members have specific qualities that align with Park Hyatt Zurich’s innovative food and beverage concept and vision. The members of this group share a passion for producing Swiss wine with care and panache, show a willingness to share their knowledge and experience with each other, have all completed training as winemakers or wine technologists or work in a wine-related profession. All members are up-and-coming in their profession and they are all under 40 years old. “Park Hyatt Masters of Food & Wine event in Zurich will showcase the exceptional quality of Swiss wines and foods with the emphasis on distinctive flavours, simplicity and quality,” says Chef Widmer.
“Junge Schweiz – Neue Winzer” will host the Masters of Food & Wine guests in some of their vineyards and wine cellars and will also be part of the gastronomic events taking place at Park Hyatt Zurich.

The Masters of Food & Wine Package with accommodation at CHF 3580 per person includes:

(3:00pm – 8:00pm) Weingut Schwarz
Wine workshop
We will take you to the vineyard and let you experience how grapes are harvested and how the whole process of the harvest is organised. You will be then shown the process and what it takes to make a white wine out of grapes from the lakes of the Zürich region. In the cellar you will be able to taste white wines and other wines from winemakers that belong to the Junge Schweiz Neue Winzer Association, all of them continuing to produce wine on the land their parents started growing grapes on years ago.

Career changers
Visit to Pasquale Chiapparini to discover his red wine and the Rafzerfeld area. You will also learn about him and how he switched careers to become a winemaker. At the end of the outing, all participants will be able to bottle their own wine.

Winemakers without their own vineyard or cellar
The boat MS Sentosa, will take us on an excursion from Zurich to Meilen and back.
En route, two winemakers, Ralf Oberer and Mathias Bechtel, will introduce themselves and their wine, which they create solely from “bought-in” grapes. After arriving in Meilen we will have the chance to visit the Schwarzenbach winery, which will be in full harvest swing, so we will get to see what really happens during harvest time.
