Le Méridien’s approach of curated experiences in the world of the arts is further enriched in May with the launch of the first ‘A New Perspective’ signature event recently at Le Meridien Taipei. The event featured “Giraffe – Camouflage for the Industrial Era,” created exclusively for the hotel by acclaimed Chinese artist Li Hui, along with interactive culture talks and activities that further transformed Le Méridien into a creative hub.
“A New Perspective” event series is designed to showcase LM100 members through an interactive experience exploring an LM100 member’s talent and will allow guests to gather new insights and stimulate dialogue. Jérôme Sans, Le Méridien’s Cultural Curator, is the founding member of the LM100 programme which was created in 2007 and now has 23 members.
“A New Perspective” signature event series with Li Hui took place in Le Meridien Taipei last week, with Jérôme Sans leading a discussion on Contemporary Art with Li Hui.
“Le Méridien Taipei is committed to bringing a rich and contemporary cultural experience to our guests and inspiring visitors to discover travel with a new perspective,” said Daven Tai, general manager. “We are pleased to unveil our first A New Perspective event and are equally excited about joining forces with Li Hui, one of China’s most acclaimed contemporary artists, who has created an exquisite piece exclusively for our creative guests.”
Li Hui’s artworks are unveiled and displayed in the lobby of Le Meridien Taipei as part of Le Méridien’s award-winning Arrival Experience. Through a visual and audio effect, guests’ minds are reset, inspiring and enticing them to discover the world of Le Méridien. Once guests step foot inside the hotel, they will be enveloped by Le Méridien brand’s signature scent, sound and use of light. Another component of the arrival experience is the Le Méridien UNLOCK ART programme, which includes an artist-designed key card collection that offers complimentary access to a local cultural institution – the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei. Created exclusively for Le Meridien Taipei as part of the Arrival Experience, “Giraffe – Camouflage for the Industrial Era” depicts a stainless steel giraffe lowering its head and resting. Hui’s use of stainless steel coupled with the sculpture’s placement symbolizes the conflict between industrial civilization and the environment. As guests approach the hotel, Hui’s contemporary creation will offer a visually and mentally stimulating experience.
The A New Perspective events are one of many ways Le Méridien Taipei inspires its guests to discover travel with a new perspective and share in unique cultural experiences. Located in the most cosmopolitan district of Taipei – Xinyi District – and steps away from local cultural offerings, Le Méridien brand’s first hotel in Taiwan ushers in a new dimension of timeless chic and is a gathering place for creative guests, with an emphasis on the arts, an inspiring atmosphere, and innovative cuisine. Going beyond the notion that a hotel should purely be a functional space for sleeping, Le Méridien Taipei offers guests unforgettable experiences that stimulate creativity and appeal to all five senses.
World renowned artist Li Hui was born in Beijing, China in 1977 and graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing in 2003. A conceptual artist, Hui works in diverse mediums including neon-lit acrylic sculptures and laser beams, which are
typically aesthetically pleasing yet mystifying, and push the boundaries of more traditional Chinese art. Hui’s work has been featured in various art exhibitions including the National Art Museum of China and the National Museum of Contemporary Art Seoul.
Chic and minimalistic, the 160-room Le Méridien Taipei goes beyond the traditional
five-star hotel experience and invites guests and the local community to discover more than just a new destination – to experience a new perspective with a focus on contemporary art and cuisine. Le Méridien Taipei introduces the signature arrival experience programme for Le Méridien brand in Taiwan; a comprehensive contemporary art program “light and shadow; two inspiring new restaurant concepts: Humble House and Latest Recipe; an innovative chocolate shop ChocoArt; and the chic lobby lounge bar Latitude 25 as well as the hotel’s destination bar Quube. In addition, Le Méridien Taipei offers 1,700 square meters of contemporary meeting and function space which makes the hotel a perfect destination for creative workshops or board meetings.
