Less than 12 months after its opening, the Grosvenor House hotel in Dubai has begun construction of a second tower, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the owner, said yesterday in a statement.
The extension, which will be called Grosvenor House – The Residence, will have 288 furnished suites and five waterside villas looking out over Dubai Marina, and is scheduled to open by the end of 2008, Sheikh Ahmed said.
The Residence will be linked to the hotel by a glass bridge and will mirror the original building in look and feel. Guests of both towers will have unrestricted access to facilities in both areas, including restaurants, clubs, business and conference facilities, as well as the Retreat Health & Spa.
New facilities in The Residence include two concept restaurants, one of which will cover the two top floors of the tower. The new building will also have a health club, hammam pools, swimming pool and children’s play area.
The Residence will have a private entrance with a reception area, guest services and also basement parking.
All suites will have views of the skyline, the marina and the Arabian Gulf, Sheikh Ahmed said.
The Villas will have car parks and lifts.
“We will replicate the soul, but we still have elements to give something fresh in 2008,” said general manager Pam Wilby.
