Tivoli Hotels & Resorts is the first Portuguese hotel chain to obtain the 100R® – 100% Guaranteed Recycling certification, an environmental certification, which is renewed every year and ensures that the company correctly separates 100% of its waste for recycling.

The 100R® – 100% Guaranteed Recycling certification is managed in Portugal by a company called Ponto Verde (“Green Point”), which is responsible for the management of waste packaging.

The Tivoli Lisboa, Tivoli Marina Vilamoura, Tivoli Lagos and Tivoli Carvoeiro are the Tivoli Hotels & Resorts which have so far been certified by Ponto Verde.

“It is immensely satisfying to see Tivoli Hotels & Resorts awarded the 100R® – 100% Guaranteed Recycling certification. It is our aim to ensure the correct management of waste produced at our hotels. Our goal is for all our hotels to be awarded this certification” stated Adriana Jacinto, Quality Director for Tivoli Hotels & Resorts.

In these four hotels, Ponto Verde assessed the daily production of waste and classified it as General Waste, Paper\Cardboard, Plastic\Metal and Glass with a view to confirming the correct separation of all waste produced. Each hotel was set a goal to reduce the amount of incorrectly separated general waste to enable a greater amount to be recovered for recycling.

The assessment report for the 100R Project identified at each of the hotels the following figures for waste:

- At the Tivoli Lisboa, to reduce the amount of general waste by 15% after one year.
- At the 3 hotels in the Algarve the figure for general waste was not particularly high, so the aim is to reduce by 3% after one year, as part of ongoing improvement.

Also planned for all of the hotels are awareness and training programmes for staff to assist them in the recovery of more materials for recycling.

In 2011, certification will also start for the Tivoli Victoria, The Residences at Victoria Clube de Golf and Tivoli Jardim.

Launched in 2008 by Ponto Verde, the organization responsible for the management of waste packaging in Portugal, the 100R® certificate aims to certify events, performances or commercial undertakings with the "ponto verde guarantee" where the waste packaging which is created is correctly dealt with for recycling.
