Doubletree by Hilton, Bucharest-Unirii Square Is Due To Open In 2011

Hilton Worldwide has today announced the signing of a franchise license agreement with VIS 7 Import Export SRL, to open a Doubletree by Hilton hotel in Bucharest, Romania. The conversion and upgrade of the Bucharest City Unirii Square Hotel to a Doubletree by Hilton hotel is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2011. The Doubletree by Hilton, Bucharest-Unirii Square will be Hilton Worldwide’s fifth hotel in Romania and the country’s second Doubletree by Hilton hotel development, with the Doubletree by Hilton, Oradea due to open in early 2011.

Welcoming today’s announcement, Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, Europe and Africa, Hilton Worldwide, said: “Our pace of growth in Romania is certainly gaining momentum and we are delighted to be building our presence in Bucharest itself. Having opened Athenee Palace Bucharest in 1997, our first hotel in Romania, and adding Hilton Sibiu last year, the Doubletree by Hilton Bucharest-Unirii Square will now become our fifth hotel development secured in Romania.”

Doubletree by Hilton is a proud member of the Hilton Worldwide portfolio of hotels, with a fast-growing network that spans more than 230 hotel and resort locations across five continents. The upscale, full-service hotel brand has seen remarkable growth since its European introduction in the spring of 2008 with 15 Doubletree by Hilton hotels now open in seven countries across Europe.

Rob Palleschi, global head, Doubletree hotels, said: “The Doubletree by Hilton, Bucharest-Unirii Square represents another important new chapter for our brand’s growing collection in Eastern Europe. This outstanding hotel project continues to reinforce the potential for owners of current and new-build hotel projects to become affiliated with Hilton Worldwide through the Doubletree by Hilton brand.”

The Doubletree by Hilton, Bucharest-Unirii Square will offer 88 bedrooms, meeting facilities, a restaurant & bar, a coffee house, and a fitness centre with sauna and treatment room. The hotel is located in the city centre, close to the heart of the business and retail area of Unirii Square, and is conveniently located for Bucharest’s many sites of historical and cultural interest, as well as the international airport.

Doubletree by Hilton will introduce business travelers and tourists in Romania to the brand’s longstanding tradition of distinctively designed properties that reflect the destination and surrounding area. Some Doubletree by Hilton characteristic qualities include the warm worldwide welcome of the brand’s legendary chocolate chip cookie to every guest at check-in, the rewards of the prestigious Hilton HHonors® loyalty programme and a unique and caring commitment to the communities in which they operate. Doubletree by Hilton believes in a set of business values that make their hotels a desirable place for employees to work and a satisfying place for travellers to stay.

Mr. Saleem Sarieddine, executive manager, VIS 7 Import Export SRL, said, “This is our first franchise agreement with Hilton Worldwide and we can proudly announce that we are signing a Doubletree by Hilton hotel. We believe that this new hotel is a great addition to Bucharest with great potential in a strategic city centre location.”
