THE FAIRMONT SOUTHAMPTON AND THE FAIRMONT HAMILTON PRINCESS IN BERMUDA ARE BUSINESS AS USUAL FOLLOWING HURRICANE IGOR
The Fairmont Southampton and The Fairmont Hamilton Princess are business as usual following Hurricane Igor, which passed over Bermuda on Sunday, September 19 and into the early hours of Monday, September 20. Full services (which were never interrupted at The Fairmont Hamilton Princess) are expected to resume today at The Fairmont Southampton. Recreational facilities at The Fairmont Southampton such as golf and resort pool are scheduled to open tomorrow.
While there is some modest wind damage and debris, clean up is well underway, and neither The Fairmont Southampton nor The Fairmont Hamilton Princess sustained any significant damage as a result of Hurricane Igor. To ensure the safety and security of its guests and colleagues, each hotel team followed a comprehensive hurricane preparedness plan, and the properties were well equipped to handle the storm.
Many homes on the island of Bermuda lost power and island officials are currently assessing any other damage. To assist local residents, The Fairmont Southampton and The Fairmont Hamilton Princess are offering reduced rates for those who wish to move into the hotels until power is restored. The properties will also work with local authorities and extend support to programs to assist residents in need.
Fairmont will continue to keep its guests apprised of airport operations updates at L.F. Wade International Airport.
“With Hurricane Igor behind us, the fall continues to be a wonderful time to visit Bermuda,” said Norman Mastalir, managing director of Fairmont Hotels, Bermuda. “It is business as usual at The Fairmont Southampton and The Fairmont Hamilton Princess. We encourage anyone considering a visit to Bermuda to move forward with their travel plans and hope to see the guests whose trips may have been cut short or postponed back on the island very soon.”
