Historic atmosphere of ‘old China’ evoked atop One Peking Road

Discerning diners are invited to step into the rich vivid era of Old China at northern Chinese restaurant Hutong which has recently been given a makeover with new décor celebrating the sights and sounds of old China and a new seasonal seafood menu.

Taking inspiration from the award-winning film Raise the Red Lantern starring Gong Li, the stunning Michelin-star venue atop One Peking Road in Tsim Sha Tsui has been transformed. Hand-crafted red lanterns specially sourced from Beijing now adorn the restaurant evoking a historic atmosphere. Lanterns are traditionally seen as symbols of good luck, prosperity and longevity and in Hutong, these icons are now complemented by carved wooden screens and tables reminiscent of Imperial Palace décor.

New seasonal seafood dishes on the menu include chili-spiced fresh abalone, in “Ma La” chili sauce (HK$188) and dried shrimp & whitebait salad (HK$128). Main course seafood specialties are currently lobster medallion with spicy tofu sauce (HK$488) and spotted grouper fillet in chili broth (HK$488).

Also among seasonal options are stir-fried prawns with chili green peppers (HK$228) and crispy eel with red chili (HK$198). On the dumpling menu is also minced pork & winter melon dumplings stuffed filled with dried shrimps (HK$88). Chopped scallops tossed with crushed conpoy are also served with mashed winter melon and egg white (HK$148).

The new specialties compliment Hutong’s award-winning menu of signature favourites including the ever-popular starter of sliced lamb & sesame salad (HK$188) and classic main courses of “Sichuan style” spicy chicken pot (HK$238), beef tenderloin in pickled-chili broth (HK188) and “Chinkiang” braised pork ribs (HK$158).

Aqua restaurant group's Hutong is recognised as one of Asia’s leading Chinese restaurants with one star in the 2010 Michelin guide to Hong Kong and Macau.

Named after Beijing’s historic but fast-disappearing courtyard alleyways, Hutong is acclaimed as "one of Kowloon’s hippest establishments" with an ambience "so atmospheric that one almost forgets the stunning harbour views".

Among numerous other accolades, Hutong has been named among Hong Kong’s best restaurants by Australia’s Vogue Entertaining + Travel and US-based Travel + Leisure.

The restaurant recently launched Hutong Club, an exclusive members-only website and discussion board offering readers a variety of information of Chinese cooking, recipes and special offers.
