Michelle Ford, general manager of Fusion Maia Da Nang, the latest five star luxury spa resort soon to open in October 2010 announced the executive appointments of Food & Beverage Manager, Executive Chef and Spa Training Manager.
Sven Van den Broeck, from Antwerp in Flanders, the Flemish speaking part of Belgium-Europe has been appointed as Food & Beverage Manager for Fusion Maia Da Nang. Sven graduated from Hotel Management School in Brussels with internships for an Accor hotel in Brussels and a Starwood property in Malta. It was on the island of Malta that Sven decided he wanted to explore the world and joined cruise liners to develop his career in Food & Beverage.
He has extensive food and beverage experience by working from waiter position, up to assistant food and beverage manager on cruise liners. During more than 5 years on cruise liners with Regent Seven Seas, Crystal Cruises and the luxury ‘The World’ (A residential cruise liner with state of the art apartments), Sven decided to join a resort – The Marigot Bay in St Lucia, a Small Leading Hotel of the World, as assistant F&B director.
Working in Asia has always been a dream for him, so when the opportunity to join Fusion Maia Da Nang arose in Vietnam, he was excited to be part of the pre-opening team to help develop this unique property and gain a new cultural experience in an upcoming destination.
Matthew Donnellan, from Sydney, Australia has a passion for food and has been cooking from a young age, and professionally for more than 15 years. As an apprentice, Matthew gained his experience in hands-on environments learning from the best chefs in Australia, and thereafter was eager to put his skills into practice in hotels, resorts and restaurants.
Working in resorts such as P&O at the world renowned Great Barrier Reef, Four Points by Sheraton and part of pre-opening team at the Raffles’ Merchant Court in Sydney. Matthew moved to the dynamic restaurant industry as sous chef and head chef at renowned Sydney restaurants. With extensive experience in Australia, he decided to explore international opportunities with Madinat Jumeirah, with 45 restaurant and bars and Bahrain’s Gulf Hotel with 16 speciality restaurants and bars. Here he was exposed to cuisines from all over the world and enjoyed his tenure with his multi-cultural brigade of chefs.
Matthew joined Fusion Maia Da Nang as Executive Chef to be part of the creation process. As a young chef eager to learn, he is excited with all the local, fresh produce available. At the resorts’ signature restaurant, FIVE, he plans to display his own interpretations of Pan-Asian cuisine, using his exposure and experience to many cuisines and passing this on to his brigade.
Maitree Aotarit is the Spa Training Manager for Maia Spa at Fusion Maia Da Nang and has over 15 years of experience in recognized spas, beauty salons and health care.
Maitree started her career with Banyan Tree in her home country, Thailand, and gained experience in positions from therapist, hair stylist to supervisor and management. She was given the opportunity with Angsana focusing on setting up new spas within the group, which always involves intensive focus on pre-opening standards implementation and training.
She expanded her horizons with spa opening projects for Angsana in Maldives and Oberoi in Egypt. After time abroad, she returned to her home country and joined the Banyan Tree academy as a trainer.
Maitree joined Fusion Maia Da Nang after 2 years with Life Resorts bringing with her international spa experience, Asian therapy training experience and local knowledge to the team which is invaluable. With Maia Spa, she is excited to utilize her strengths in therapy training to develop the local team to provide caring touch.
