Khaled Shaker, director of rooms at Park Hyatt Zurich, was named “Head of Front Office of the Year 2010” by the Swiss economic magazine Bilanzon 2 July 2010.
A native Egyptian, Khaled has been part of the team of Park Hyatt Zurich since its opening in September 2004. He started as front office manager in the luxury Zurich city hotel, before being promoted to director of rooms in 2007. In this position, Khaled is responsible for all the standards and procedures within the departments that are relevant to hotel accommodation, namely Front Desk, the telephone operators, the concierges and the bell attendants, as well as Housekeeping and Guest Relations.
Khaled graduated from the University of Alexandria, Egypt, in 1995. The 36-year-old started his career in 1996 as a receptionist at the Montazah Sheraton in Alexandria. After another two years in Hurgahada as reservations manager for the InterContinental Resort & Casino, Khaled made his way to Zurich, where he worked as a night manager at the Arabella Sheraton Atlantis and as front office manager at the InterContinental between 1998 and 2003. In 2003, he gained further experience as front office manager at the Ramada Plaza in Basel, before completing his Master’s in Hospitality Management at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
