Aqua Hotels & Resorts (www.aquaresorts.com), a full-service Hawaii hotel management company, announced the addition of Hotel Lanai, effective May 1, 2010.

“As Hawaii’s growth leader, we’re pleased to welcome Hotel Lanai to our selection of hotels and resorts,” said Ben Rafter, Aqua’s President and CEO. “In the previous 12 months, Aqua nearly doubled its statewide inventory and adding a distinctive hotel that’s steeped in Lanai’s history is a great addition for us and our guests.”

“Along with Hotel Molokai and Hotel Wailea Maui, the addition of Hotel Lanai distinguishes Aqua as the only hotel company with properties on each of the three islands making up Maui County,” said Elizabeth Churchill, Aqua’s VP Sales & Marketing. “The island of Lanai offers travelers a wide range of unique experiences and we’re thrilled to offer Hotel Lanai to visitors seeking out this island.”

“We’re elated to be working with Aqua Hotels,” said Mary Charles, Hotel Lanai owner. “It’s just so fitting to have a kamaaina company looking out for our best interests at this wonderfully historic hotel.”

Hotel Lanai was built in 1923, as a retreat for executives on business and important guests, by pineapple pioneer James D. Dole. It is located in the heart of Lanai City at a comfortable elevation of 1,700 feet.

The hotel’s unique plantation heritage is still evident in the furnishings and décor of the guest rooms and adjacent cottage. Each room has its own personality which includes a beautiful Hawaiian quilt, artwork by Lanai artists, hardwood flooring, ceiling fan and private bathroom.

Chef Bev Gannon, one of the founding members of “Hawaii Regional Cuisine”, designed the menu for Lanai City Grille, the in-house restaurant which offers the freshest locally caught seafood, prime meats and the restaurant’s signature rotisserie chicken.

LANAI

In 1922 James D. Dole purchased the island of Lanai for 1.1 million dollars to grow pineapples and at its peak, Lanai produced 75 percent of the world’s pineapples. Once called the “Pineapple Island”, today only about 100 acres are devoted to pineapple growing.

Now called the “Enticing Island”, Lanai is 141 square miles (13 miles wide by 18 miles long) and home to an estimated 3,000 full time residents. Located nine miles off Maui’s west coast, it has just 29 miles of paved roads, a single gas station (but no stoplight) and miles upon miles of untouched, unspoiled valleys and beaches for residents and visitors to explore and enjoy.

INTRODUCTORY SPECIAL

To introduce the new partnership, customers booking a room at Hotel Lanai for stays booked in May and June will receive one complimentary dessert when dining at Lanai City Grille.

Rates at Hotel Lanai start at $99 per night for a standard room and up to $179 per night for the cottage. Daily continental breakfast is included.

“I have fond memories of spending nights at the hotel when I traveled to Lanai to meet with Dole management years ago,” indicated Bill Henderson, Aqua’s VP of Development. “I was glad to see the hotel continues to retain the family-like ambiance and charm that it had back then but also offers modern conveniences travelers have become accustomed to having today. Hotel Lanai provides a nice balance to the accommodations and dining options currently available on this island.”
