New Executive Chef brings world of experience to Mövenpick Hotel Saigon (Viêt Nam)

Executive Chef Konstantin Elser’s timing in joining the team at Mövenpick Hotel Saigon could hardly be better suited to his creative instincts – and vice versa: The hotel recently undertook a phased but comprehensive renovation, including refurbishment of all its dining facilities and their menus.

Having begun his culinary career at age 16, Elser’s youth belies a depth of expertise built on far-flung adventures in sophisticated cooking and menu planning. It began with a solid foundation in traditional German cuisine in his native country.

He refined his skills at the Mövenpick Hotel Zurich Airport, followed by a stint at the Intercontinental Hyde Park in London. Elser expanded his repertoire during a world cruise on board the MV Europa, and further burnished his reputation by becoming one of the youngest executive chefs in Thailand.

“Konstantin’s passion and enthusiasm would be desirable in any setting,” noted Dominik Stamm, general manager of the Mövenpick Hotel Saigon. “But the opportunity to really remake our dining options makes him the perfect man for the job.”

The Mövenpick Hotel Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City’s newest 5-star hotel, is currently renovating Nishimura, its renowned Japanese restaurant. Dining facilities to follow in the renovation process include Café Saigon, the all-day dining and buffet restaurant; the Lotus Court Chinese restaurant, famous citywide for its Dim Sum and Cantonese cuisine; and OJ’s Café lounge and take-away. Mulligan’s, the pub and casual dining area adjacent to the lobby, will also receive a substantial makeover.

“Some chefs wait an entire career to get the chance to influence the character of any food-and-beverage operation,” said Elser, “let alone one that’s already established and well-respected. So this is an exciting prospect, as well as a big responsibility.”
