Phase One Commences as the Famed Resort Expands
Island Outpost, a collection of distinctive hotels and villas in Jamaica, began the expansion of its famed GoldenEye resort with an official groundbreaking ceremony held on August 14th, 2009. Entertainment mogul Chris Blackwell; the Honorable Bruce Golding, Prime Minister; the Honorable Daryl Vaz, Minister of Projects and Implementation; and Jason Henzell, president of Island Outpost attended the official ceremony.
“My goal is to ensure that our concept of destination tourism makes an impact by creating new opportunities in the community and creates an international awareness for Oracabessa and the Parish of St. Mary,” said Chris Blackwell, whose primary concern is uplifting the community and protecting its natural resources.
For more than sixty years, GoldenEye has been synonymous with glamour and style. Formally the home of Ian Fleming, who penned the legacy of James Bond in the 1950s, GoldenEye estate was acquired in 1977 by Chris Blackwell, and since then has been turned into a luxury destination resort; loved and frequently visited by celebrities, political figures and musicians. Now, Blackwell has expanded the cultured community of the Island Outpost with the new residences at GoldenEye – an unprecedented invitation to share in the legacy.
Phase I of the development will be completed in the last quarter of 2010 and will include eleven beachfront cottages and a new beachfront restaurant. The architectural focus is in the traditional Jamaican vernacular and award winning Jamaican architect, Ann Hodges re-introduces the classic Caribbean cottage complete with contemporary comforts: wood-clad exteriors, jalousie shutters, and exotic outdoor showers.
The GoldenEye lifestyle, characterized by easy-living connected to local culture in a secluded, yet liberating atmosphere, can now be enjoyed by the residence owners who will benefit from a rental program operated by Island Outpost, which also manages other award-winning properties in the Caribbean, including The Caves, Geejam, Jakes and Strawberry Hill, in Jamaica.
