Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino in St. Maarten announces the appointment of general manager
Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino has appointed Rabin Ortiz as general manager, effective immediately.
A native of Puerto Rico, Mr. Ortiz is a seasoned hotelier with more than 25 years of experience in the Caribbean hotel industry, including the opening of five hotels and resorts in Anguilla, Miami, Puerto Rico and St. Thomas. Mr. Ortiz will champion the hotel’s focus on redefined values and how it provides encompassing guest experiences by leading resort staff and employees to distinguished levels of service excellence.
“Our goal is to lead and encourage our staff to be more creative, inspired and passionate, as I believe the hotel team should be an integrated facet of the guest experience and not just be in the background,” Mr. Ortiz says. “Exceptional atmospheres are now at the forefront of the Sonesta Maho experience, while providing a relaxing and fun place to stay and soak in what St. Maarten has to offer.”

To achieve the Maho vision for exceptional guest services, Mr. Ortiz has embarked on a stringent program, which includes improvements in food and beverage, amenities and standards of service. He will also assist in coordinating hotel renovation programs, work on the development of community interaction and a keen focus will also be on the expansion of marketing efforts to South America.
Most recently, Mr. Ortiz served as General Manager for Martineau Bay Vieques in Puerto Rico since 2005, where he lead the transition to Starwood Standards from a previous brand and prepared the resort for renovations and re-opening as the new W Retreat and Spa Vieques in 2010.
From 2002 to 2005, he held the position of General Manager at Cuisinart Resort & Spa in Anguilla, where he was fully engaged in all operations, including sales and marketing, for the privately owned 92-room resort. As Resident Manager from 1999 to 2002, Mr. Ortiz was a crucial member of the pre-opening team, responsible for all front of house areas.
His resort experience also includes the Wyndham Old San Juan in Puerto Rico, and he was also part of the pre-opening teams for The Tides Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida, the Westin Rio Mar in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, and the Grand Palazzo Hotel in St. Thomas.
Mr. Ortiz began his career in 1976 as the Front Office Manager for the Centro Turístico Punta Borinquen in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
He attended high school in Puerto Rico and started his college education at Interamerican University, concluding at the School of Hotel Administration, Cornell Branch, where received his degree in Hotel Management.
