Two Ships to Offer Thrilling Cruises and Cruisetours for Adventure Seekers and Families
Flight-seeing, whale watching, hiking, biking and zip-lining are just part
of the exhilarating mix of options for guests who sail on Royal Caribbean International’s 2010
Alaska cruises. The cruise line today unveiled 37 sailings for the season, seven- to 14-night itineraries
aboard Radiance of the Seas and Rhapsody of the Seas. Guests can choose sailings from San Diego;
Seattle; Seward, Alaska; and Vancouver, British Columbia, which will call at total of thirteen ports –
eight of which are Alaskan. Guests also can complement their Alaska cruise with a cruisetour
extension and travel beyond the ports into the rugged interior of Alaska. Celebrating its 21st
consecutive season in the Great Land, Royal Caribbean is opening bookings for its 2010 Alaska
cruises and cruisetours immediately.
Guests sailing on Radiance of the Seas’ itineraries can further immerse themselves in Alaska’s
culture and wildlife with a choice of 21 cruisetour options – 19 of which feature journeys aboard the
Wilderness Express, Royal Caribbean’s exclusive and luxurious glass-domed railcars that offer
panoramic views of the magnificent scenery. Cruisetour highlights include stays in Denali with a tour
into the National Park, where guests can seek out Alaska’s “Big Five,” grizzly bear, caribou, Dall
sheep, wolf and moose; tram rides from the ski slopes of Alyeska, soaring 2,300 feet up to the apex
of Mount Alyeska, for breathtaking views of mountain ranges and hanging glaciers; and stays in the
historic village of Talkeetna, nestled at the base of Mount McKinley, North America’s tallest peak,
where guests can participate in such optional activities as jet boating and flight-seeing. Throughout,
guests on a Royal Caribbean cruisetour will be escorted by a tour director.
Royal Caribbean’s shore excursions also will provide guests with adventurous and decidedly
unique ways in which to experience the Alaska destinations. At Icy Strait Point, for instance, guests
can ride the world’s longest ZipRider zip line – 5,300 feet long with a 1,300-foot vertical drop – that
accelerates up to 60 miles an hour to the beach below. Guests also can opt for the once-in-a-lifetime
experience of sailing aboard a commercial crabbing vessel in the Bering Sea, where they just might
find themselves holding an Alaskan crab on deck.
Alternating north- and southbound seven-night itineraries between Seward and Vancouver
every Friday, Radiance of the Seas will call at four Alaskan ports – more than any other cruise line
offering non-roundtrip Alaska itineraries. Ports of call will include Ketchikan; Juneau; Skagway; and
Icy Strait Point, the only wilderness port in Alaska. Guests also will visit Hubbard Glacier, the
world’s largest advancing calving glacier at six miles wide and 300 feet high and the highest rated
destination by past Alaska cruise guests. Radiance of the Seas also will offer two special “Ultimate
Alaska” itineraries, a 13-night San Diego to Vancouver cruise on May 8, featuring a call at Nanaimo,
British Columbia – last visited by a Royal Caribbean ship in May 2007 – and a 14-night voyage
sailing in the reverse direction on September 10.
Rhapsody of the Seas will offer a seven-night roundtrip itinerary, sailing from Seattle and plying
the Inside Passage with calls at Alaska’s Juneau and Skagway, and Victoria, British Columbia.
Highlights will include a cruise through the 32-mile Tracy Arm Fjord, with its narrow walls rising
more than 8,000 feet high and visits to Sawyer Glacier, whose glacier face rise approximately 200
feet high.
Radiance-class Radiance of the Seas and Vision-class Rhapsody of the Seas boast two acres of
dazzling glass walls, affording guests sweeping vistas of Alaska’s landscape as it unfolds. Guests can
try their hands at the ships’ iconic rock-climbing walls for an even more thrilling view from the
ship’s highest point or enjoy a myriad of rejuvenating spa treatments in the Day Spa. Younger guests
will be entertained and enlightened in the cruise line’s award-winning Adventure Ocean and teen
programming, with scheduled activities led by a college-graduate counselor beginning as early as 9
a.m. and concluding at 2 a.m. In the evenings, guests can enjoy the cruise lines award-winning
Broadway-style musical revues from Royal Caribbean Productions shows, and reflect on the day’s
experiences in multiple onboard bars and lounges over cocktails. Throughout, all guests enjoy Royal
Caribbean’s friendly and engaging Gold Anchor Service from every staff and crew.
