InterContinental Hotels and Resorts announced today a $14 million investment in the Montreal property that will redefine all aspects of guest hospitality at the hotel. Improvements to the hotel began in early January and are slated for completion in the spring."Over the last several years, the landscape of five star hotels in Montreal
has considerably changed and has become much more competitive. Our new owners Pandox AB of Sweden want the hotel to maintain its leading position in the market by providing guests with a unique décor and boutique feel combined with the internationally renowned InterContinental Hotels savoir-faire. This significant investment will ensure we maintain the position we have held for the past 18 years well into the future," said Mr. Bernard Chênevert, General Manager of the Montreal InterContinental.
Renewed Style, Enhanced Comfort and Modern Technology in Every Room
A significant proportion of the investment will be used to completely remodel all of the rooms and suites of the hotel to provide business and leisure travellers the ultimate in style, comfort, and modern technology. Every room will feature new top quality furniture including: king size beds
with Simmons Beautyrest(TM) mattresses, designer chairs, dressers and larger desks. Style and comfort for guests will be enhanced with top quality linens, new plush carpets, drapes, modern lighting, distinctive wallpaper, unique artwork. In the remodelled four fixture marble bathrooms guests will enjoy the three way shower massage with variable intensity and calibrated pressure. The spacious rooms have been designed with warm rich colour tones to provide guests with a comforting and engaging environment as the perfect escape after a long day of meetings or sightseeing.
In addition, technology enthusiasts will greatly appreciate the new 40 inch LCD widescreen televisions with additional speakers in the bathroom, the Teac iPod(TM) alarm clocks, the Bartech electronic mini bars and the innovative contact free Kaba card entry system which is an industry first in
the Québec market. The InterContinental Montreal is also the only hotel in the city where all rooms are equipped with an emergency lighting system.
A New Club Lounge, a Trendy Bar and a Restaurant Inspired by Provence
The hotel will also provide guests with completely redesigned dining and leisure amenities. This includes a new Club Lounge located near the remodelled reception area, a trendy wired bar themed around the fascination and historically illegal ritual surrounding Absinthe liqueur and a restaurant inspired by the Provence region in France. "The new restaurant will provide locals and hotel guests with a Provençal dining experience and ambiance. Our
signature dishes will only be created from the freshest of ingredients and reflect a fusion of Provence and local specialities using only top quality local ingredients. Also exciting is our new cellar that will hold up to 1200
bottles of great wines to accommodate everyone's taste and budget," explained executive chef Christian Lévêque while adding "our new trendy wired bar will feature a tapas inspired menu and we are positive that both will be a
tremendous success with our guests and local clientele."
A Vision Focused on Customer Experience
Since the arrival of General Manager Bernard Chênevert in September 2008, the hotel has implemented a vision solely focused on providing guests with the most enjoyable and memorable customer experience possible. This is reflected
in the careful planning and execution of the work to be performed in the coming months. As rooms on a floor are being remodelled, both floors above and below the work area are closed to limit any inconveniences or noise for guests. The reception and business centre have been relocated in easily accessible areas and continue to provide the same level of service to all guests during remodelling period.
As work is completed in the coming months, the hotel will continue to focus on all aspects of customer experience at the hotel and to this end Mr.
Chênevert recently recruited Mr. Sébastien Gagné as Director of Guest Experience, a new position that focuses mainly on the overall mapping of the guest experience to ensure every component of a stay is flawlessly orchestrated. "Mr. Gagné is a great addition to our team and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the hotel having been responsible for customer experience at some of the most prestigious hospitality organizations. When our improvement plan and customer experience strategy is fully implemented this spring, guests of the hotel will be more than delighted with their stay with us. They will live an exciting and enriching experience in a most elegant and timeless setting that will provide them with lasting memories," concluded Bernard Chênevert, General Manager of the InterContinental Montreal.
