Capt. C.P. Krishnan Nair, Chairman, The Leela Palaces, Hotels & Resorts has been honoured by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences (AAHS) for his contribution to environment beautification and corporate social responsibility. The American Academy for the first time has instituted an award honouring corporate czars who have championed the cause of environment and Capt.C.P.Krishnan Nair is the first recipient of this prestigious award. A visionary hotelier, who has ensured that each of The Leela hotels & resorts is a green oasis Capt.C.P.Krishnan Nair says “Environment is no longer about being green, reusing towels and recycling paper. Today, the main focus is on corporate responsibility by practicing environment protection and sustainability.”
1999 saw Capt. C P Krishnan Nair being conferred the prestigious UNEP’s Global 500 Laureate Roll of Honour by His Majesty Emperor Akhito of Japan, for his environmental initiatives. In 2005 again Pacific Asia Travel Association awarded him the PATA Gold Award for environment excellence. Today, The Leela Palaces, Hotels & Resorts, support the UNEP’s billion Tree Campaign, a global initiative to encourage tree planting. The existing Leela properties have planted and nurtured a total of 35,56,633 trees and plants to date, and have pledged to plant another 78,447 trees and plants in the upcoming, The Leela Palace, Udaipur, scheduled to open in March 2009.
The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences is renowned for awarding excellence in global travel and luxury services sector. The awards salute true quality in the hospitality industry worldwide. Hotel LeelaVenture Ltd. owns and operates The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts in Mumbai, Bangalore, Goa and Kovalam (Kerala). New hotels will soon open in Gurgaon (Jan. 2009), Udaipur (March. 2009), Chennai (late 2009) and New Delhi (2010); with future plans to develop hotels in Agra, Hyderabad and Pune. The group has marketing alliances with Kempinski (Hoteliers since 1897); US based Preferred Hotel Group and are members of Global Hotel Alliance headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
