Mandarin Oriental, Macau together with the Macau Government Tourist Office is delighted to announce a fun-filled celebration of Oktoberfest from 7 to 16 November 2008. Along with plenty of genuine Bavarian beer, German food and wine specialities, and live music by an authentic German band -- the event is guaranteed to provide non-stop fun for all.

The sound of oompah and the aroma of sizzling German bratwurst heralds Oktoberfest at Mandarin Oriental, Macau. This year’s celebration is sure to be a rollicking good time and will include a 25-metre-long Munich beer tent with room for 400 people. Erected on the hotel grounds over long wooden tables and benches to create an authentic Oktoberfest atmosphere, the site will feature Bavarian decoration as well as a beer garden. Throughout the ten-day celebration events will run from 5.00 p.m. until 12 midnight.

A Bavarian outdoor barbecue located at the resort will offer a variety of char-broiled German sausages including Thueringer roast sausage and Munich white sausage, homemade pretzels and sweet mustard, fire-roasted spicy chicken with potato salad, and cured pig’s knuckle with sauerkraut. Beverage highlights include a special Paulaner Oktoberfest brew served in a one-litre mug.

Further enlivening each evening will be entertainment by a six-piece German band flown in direct from Munich. The whole tent will be encouraged to sing along while toasting and dancing.

The celebration of Oktoberfest traces back to 1810 when Crown Prince Ludwig, who later became King Ludwig I, was married to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on 12 October 1810. All citizens of Munich were invited to attend festivities held on fields before the city gates and to celebrate the royal wedding. From this has evolved a cheerful gathering of revellers who each year in Munich comprise the largest public festival in the world, attended by approximately six million visitors.

Many cities round the world hold their own versions of Oktoberfest. And this year, the 175th Oktoberfest, Mandarin Oriental, Macau will further establish the city as having one of the best celebrations in all of Asia.

An entrance fee of MOP$50 nett applies to each guest. Don’t miss the excitement and carnival atmosphere of this renowned German beer festival. Please ring +853 8793-3533 for reservations and enquiries.

• Oktoberfest coupons valued at MOP$360 per person to be exchanged for food and drinks at the tent
