‘Imperial Dynasty’ Combines Banquet and Two Luxury Nights at Grand Castle Hotel, Xi’an (Chine)

A lavish Tang Dynasty imperial banquet plus two nights’ luxury accommodation is on offer at The Grand Castle Hotel Xi’an for just RMB 1,398.

The ‘Imperial Dynasty’ package is available until December 31, 2008 to celebrate the opening of the luxurious independent 5-star hotel in China’s ancient capital.

Designed for two, the package’s highlight is the ‘Empress Banquet’, uniquely designed around 8th century delicacies beloved by Yang Yuhuan, one of the ‘Four Great Beauties’ of ancient China and consort of Li Longji, the Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty.

The package also includes daily buffet breakfast and round-trip airport transfers.

Served at the Hotel’s opulent Yue Chinese Restaurant, the 11-course banquet includes ancient treats such as ‘Imperial Hors D'oeuvres’ of prawns, pine nuts and beef, and colourfully presented ‘Precious Gold and Jade’ white scallops served with golden bacon and bright green spinach.



Also on the menu is braised fish maw and seafood broth, sauteed king prawn in sweet and sour sauce, steamed dumplings, deep-fried perch, stewed seafood with mushrooms and blanched dumplings in superior soup.

The banquet is completed with almond soybean curd in lychee juice, a tribute to Du Mu’s poem immortalising Consort Yang’s love of lychees, and Huang Guichou yellow wine, which was served exclusively at imperial banquets and is said to have been the secret of her “enchanting beauty”.

Unique ‘opera mask’ mooncakes are also presented to diners as souvenirs.

The imperial cuisine is adapted with modern culinary techniques and sophisticated presentation by Master Chef Zhong Guoquan, famed for his mastery of authentic Guangdong cuisine as well as local Xi’an delicacies.

The price of RMB 1,398 net per person (minimum two persons) includes two nights in a Superior Room with daily buffet breakfast at The Veranda Café Restaurant and round-trip airport transfer.

The hotel’s classically-styled Yue is a fine dining landmark in Xi’an, where Consort Yang lived – with the Huanquing Hot Springs where she bathed preserved to this day as an historical site.

Aside from the Empress Banquet, Grand Castle Hotel also offers a custom-made local tour programme devised by their Chief Concierge Jerry He, an authority on the attractions of the local Xi’an area, and also the head of the Xi’an chapter of the Golden Keys Association (the international association of professional concierges). Jerry will tailor make a tour programme for guests to enjoy the attractions of Xi’an such as the Ancient City Wall, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, the World Heritage Terra-cotta Warriors and so on.

The Grand Castle Hotel, uniquely designed in the historic architectural style of the adjacent ancient City Wall which the hotel overlooks, is newly re-opened following an extensive facelift and re-branding.
