Hilton Hotels Corporation (HHC) has announced the debut of its newest hotel, Hilton Madrid Airport, heralding the arrival of company’s 84th European property and the introduction of the city’s first upscale hotel serving the Spanish capital’s premier airport gateway.

“The opening of Hilton Madrid Airport is another key milestone on our planned journey to open a total of 50 properties in Spain and Portugal over the next five years,” said Wolfgang M. Neumann, President of Hilton Hotels - Europe.

“Today a significant percentage of the country’s fifty million plus annual visitors come for business reasons and yet there are few international brands catering to that demand across the country. With the opening of our newest hotel, we now complete our network of purpose-built meetings hotels – some 1,425 rooms - in the Madrid-Barcelona-Valencia business triangle and are well placed to capitalise on the growing business segment.”

The hotel, Hilton’s fifth Spanish property, is well placed to target the corporate traveller with world-standard conference facilities and 284 designer-inspired guest rooms and suites. Located just a few hundred metres from Europe’s fifth busiest hub, the Hilton Madrid Airport provides an ultra convenient base for meetings delegates and long haul travellers without sacrificing style.

Neumann added: “This, our sixteenth airport hotel in Europe, continues to set the standard for airport properties and has very much been designed to facilitate business needs by providing a convenient meeting location for time-trapped travellers or simply a relaxing stopover before or after a long haul flight.”

Designed by prominent Spanish architect, Miguel Oliver Pérez, the hotel’s unique structure consists of two imposing cubes interconnected by a spacious conference and events space. Each eight-storey accommodation cube is anchored around a striking 25 metre high atrium, infused with natural sunlight filtering through the rooftop skylights.

The main reception area is located within footsteps of the lobby entrance and leads to the atrium area featuring dining and entertainment spaces, ranging from the stylish Ferrum Bar to a choice of formal and informal dining experiences to suit all tastes, including the intimate Reserva restaurant (five tenedores restaurant rating) specialising in traditional Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine, as well as La Plaza, offering all day casual dining and where the daily Hilton breakfast is served.

Guest rooms and amenities

Spread over eight floors and the two accommodation cubes, the hotel offers 284 designer-inspired guest rooms and suites, featuring floor to ceiling windows and generous three metre ceilings adding a sense of luxury and height. Primarily decorated in black and white, punctuated with accents of colour, each well appointed room is furnished with modern and sleek furniture that precisely complements the hues in the bed head artwork. Rooms offer the very latest in-room technology, including LCD flat screen televisions, as well as high-speed internet access and wireless connectivity, which is also available throughout the hotel. Designed with guests’ comfort and rest in mind, rooms feature the Hilton Serenity Bed, as well as the Hilton Serenity Bath Collection® of Crabtree & Evelyn line of La Source® bath amenities. The sleek design continues to the bathrooms, which are fitted with both a bath and separate shower, glass vanity basins and frosted glass sliding walls to allow a combination of natural light and privacy.

Hilton Madrid Airport also features nine luxurious suites as well as 24 “Hilton Relaxation Rooms”, a new concept of premium room, divided into three distinct zones to help guests differentiate their workspace from the relaxation area and the bathroom. At 45 sqm, these rooms feature the added bonus of a hydro spa bath. An Executive Lounge provides private check-in and check-out, as well as complimentary Hilton Breakfast and refreshments throughout the day for those staying in suites, executive and relaxation rooms.

The first floor of the hotel is home to a Hydrotherapeutic Pool and Fitness centre with a 12 metre long pool equipped with hydro jets and a ‘bubble’ bench, as well as a sauna, a Hamman and Hilton Fitness by Precor® gym. The retractable roof over the pool and solarium area also allows guests to soak up the Spanish sun during their stay.

Ideally located

Hilton Madrid Airport is located close to the main highway (A2) connecting Barcelona with Madrid and is five minutes drive from IFEMA, Spain’s primary fair ground and one of the largest convention and exhibition centres in Europe. Close by is an emerging business area, new residential apartment blocks, and a large shopping mall. Guests can also tee off in the nearby Olivar de la Hinojosa golf course, located close to IFEMA. The hotel provides a complimentary shuttle service for guests to and from the airport. Madrid’s cultural attractions are just 10 mins drive away.

Fulfilling and catering to business and the MICE market

Located just a few hundred metres from the airport and two kilometres from one of the biggest trade fairgrounds in Europe, guests can be working wireless from their room or meeting clients in one of the purpose-built meetings spaces within thirty minutes of touch down.

The hotel’s extensive conference and meetings facilities - which can accommodate up to 1,000 guests - are located on the ground floor of the hotel, and offer 14 function rooms as well as a spacious ballroom totaling 1,700 sqm,. With a six and a half metre high ceiling, the ballroom is designed for events requiring a large stage and for product launches. For absolute privacy, an entire accommodation wing can be transformed into a self-contained conference and meeting centre with a separate lobby, entrance, and 150 guest rooms.

Last year Hilton added two new hotels on the Spanish mainland - Hilton Valencia and Hilton Toledo Buenavista, as well as opening their first property on the Algarve. The opening also marks the first of two Spanish debuts in June, with a second hotel scheduled to open on the island of Mallorca later this month. Built around an impressive 14th century tower, the 90 room Hilton Sa Torre Mallorca (www.satorre-mallorca.hilton.com) combines traditional architecture with contemporary interior design to provide the perfect getaway for leisure and business guests.

Hilton has named the Iberian Peninsula as one of its key development regions, joining Russia, the UK & Ireland, Italy, Germany, Turkey and Poland as core strategic areas for the introduction of the Hilton Family of hotels in Europe. This latest opening reflects the dynamic growth across Spain and Portugal, with contracts signed to open two further new properties in Quinta Do Lago and Lisbon. Over the next five years, the company anticipates it will introduce more than 50 Hilton Family hotels across the Iberian Peninsula.

In addition to the two new Spanish properties, HHC expects to introduce a further ten new hotels across continental Europe in 2008, in addition to a ‘re-launch’ of the renowned Rome Cavalieri hotel, which is expected to re-open its doors under The Waldorf=Astoria Collection banner this spring.
