Solís Cambrian Hotel & Spa in Adelboden, Switzerland celebrates its grand opening tomorrow (20th February), two months after the property was re-launched on 20th December 2007, following a complete refurbishment that has seen the property emerge as an easy-going but luxurious hotel, with a contemporary design focus.
While touches of the early 20th century building remain, such as the cosy under eaves bedrooms that have been converted into duplexes, much of the hotel has been re-designed for modern living, including a sun terrace, winter garden, Mediterranean restaurant called Nova, Scott’s après-ski bar and a spacious 750 sq m spa using 100% natural Sodashi products from Australia.
With only 71 rooms (including 23 suites), the hotel is able to offer excellent levels of service with a personal touch, all part of the philosophy of Horst Schulze, the ex-CEO of The Ritz-Carlton who has created the Solís brand.
Solís Cambrian Hotel & Spa occupies an enviable location with stunning panoramic views of the Swiss Alps, which are best enjoyed from the warmth of the heated outdoor swimming pool, complete with massaging water spouts, after a hard day’s skiing. The property is just 100 metres from the centre of Adelboden, a welcoming and unspoilt village of traditional wooden chalets.
With a 170km ski area, accessed via 55 lifts, there are pistes to suit every level of skier, be they beginners, intermediates or off-piste experts; both skiers and boarders are welcome. There is even a World Cup slope – a World Cup event takes place in Adelboden in early January each year – for those who really want to test their downhill skiing.
Adelboden is easily accessible from the UK: Flybe operate flights from Birmingham and Southampton to Bern, which is a 40-minute road or rail journey away, and numerous airlines fly to Zurich and Geneva, from where there are easy train connections to the resort.
