The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA) remains committed to showcasing the island’s diverse offerings beyond sun, sea, and sand, making it a must-visit destination for all types of travellers.
A destination beyond the beach
Saint Lucia’s lush landscapes, volcanic peaks, and vibrant culture offer an experience that goes far beyond its pristine beaches. The island has been recognized as the World’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination for two consecutive years by the World Travel Awards, proving that it is much more than just a romantic retreat.
For those with an adventurous spirit, the island offers thrilling activities such as hiking the Pitons, exploring 19,000 acres of untouched rainforest, visiting a local rum distillery, and chocolate making. Travellers can also enjoy catamaran cruises and helicopter tours and even take on the Three Peaks Challenge, which involves climbing the two iconic Pitons and Mount Gimie, the island’s highest peak at approximately 3,000 feet above sea level.
For wildlife enthusiasts, Saint Lucia has also launched the Small Six Challenge, inspired by Africa’s Big Five safari concept. The island is home to six endemic bird species, including the elusive Saint Lucia Amazon parrot, which hasn’t been sighted since the 1990s. Birdwatchers and nature lovers are encouraged to take on the challenge to spot these rare creatures, making their visit to Saint Lucia even more rewarding.
New openings and expansions
As Saint Lucia evolves, its hospitality landscape is transforming with several exciting new developments. One of the most anticipated openings, Secrets Saint Lucia, a luxury all-inclusive resort, is scheduled to open in June 2025. This marks the second Hyatt Inclusive Collection property on the island, following Zoëtry Marigot Bay. The addition of this resort restores around 300 rooms to Saint Lucia’s inventory, a significant boost after recent hotel closures.
Another major addition is The LifeCo, a wellness-focused retreat that was set to open in March 2025. Known for its flagship property in Bodrum, Turkey, The LifeCo brings a science-based approach to wellness, emphasizing veganism, holistic healing, and sustainable living. This complements Saint Lucia’s existing wellness leader, The BodyHoliday, but introduces a more medically driven approach to health and rejuvenation.
Further expanding the luxury market, Bay Gardens Group, already known for its three- and four-star accommodations, is launching its first five-star property in Rodney Bay. This new resort caters to high-end travellers while maintaining accessibility across all budget levels.
Additionally, a new 18-hole golf course resort residence, Cabot Saint Lucia, has opened, adding to the island’s luxury offerings and attracting golf enthusiasts worldwide.
Saint Lucia’s Olympic connection
Saint Lucia’s global profile received a significant boost in 2024, thanks to its first-ever Olympic medalist, Julien Alfred, who won gold in the women's 100 meters and silver in the 200 meters at the Paris Olympics. This historic moment aligns perfectly with Saint Lucia’s branding as the only country in the world named after a woman, reinforcing the island’s inspiring and trailblazing identity. To further enhance this narrative, Alfred has purchased a property at the newly developed Cabot Saint Lucia, adding prestige and visibility to the location.
The sweet taste of Saint Lucia: Hotel Chocolat and culinary tourism
Beyond its natural beauty and adventure opportunities, Saint Lucia has deep ties to the chocolate industry. Hotel Chocolat, a globally recognized brand, has its origins on the island, with a rich history rooted in Saint Lucian cocoa farming.
Visitors can take part in immersive chocolate-making experiences, such as the Bean to Bar and Tree to Bar workshops, where they can craft their own chocolate bars from scratch.
For those looking for a luxurious stay immersed in chocolate culture, Rabot Hotel by Hotel Chocolat offers a unique eco-lodge experience in Soufrière. Set within a cacao plantation, the boutique hotel provides stunning views of the Pitons and a farm-to-table dining experience that highlights the island’s cocoa heritage.
Hotel Chocolat recently expanded into the US market following its partnership with Mars, meaning that Saint Lucia’s cocoa industry is gaining even more international attention. To celebrate this, the brand has released a Saint Lucia-specific chocolate bar, further strengthening the island’s reputation as a culinary destination.
Overcoming accessibility challenges
One of the key challenges for Saint Lucia remains its accessibility from certain international markets. While the United States remains its largest source of visitors due to frequent direct flights, travellers from Europe often have to connect via the UK or North America. Tourists can fly from London Gatwick with daily flights with British Airways and every Tuesday with TUI, while Virgin Atlantic provides three direct flights a week from London Heathrow during the winter.
In addition to direct flights, a ferry service from the neighboring French islands offers a scenic and leisurely way to arrive in Saint Lucia, adding a touch of adventure to the journey.
The SLTA continues to market Saint Lucia’s unique offerings to potential visitors, showing them that the journey is well worth the destination. The combination of breathtaking landscapes, luxurious accommodations, and adventure-driven activities makes Saint Lucia an increasingly compelling choice.
Sustainability and conscious tourism
Sustainability is at the forefront of Saint Lucia’s tourism strategy. Hotel Chocolat, for example, is deeply invested in ethical cocoa farming and environmental conservation, ensuring that its chocolate production benefits both the environment and local farmers.
The tourism board is also working closely with hotels, tour operators, and other stakeholders to promote eco-friendly practices, such as reducing plastic waste, conserving water, and supporting community-led conservation projects.
Travellers can also participate in sustainable experiences, such as visiting organic farms, engaging in coral restoration initiatives, and staying at eco-lodges that prioritize green energy and minimal environmental impact. Conscious travellers can take comfort in knowing that their visit contributes to local conservation efforts, responsible tourism, and a more sustainable future for Saint Lucia.
Looking ahead
With its blend of luxury, adventure, and culture, Saint Lucia is emerging as a dynamic travel destination that caters to a diverse range of visitors. Whether it’s climbing volcanic peaks, indulging in wellness retreats, spotting rare bird species, or crafting handmade chocolate, the island offers a plethora of unique experiences.
As new properties and attractions continue to open, Saint Lucia is attracting more travelers looking for immersive and transformative vacations. No longer just a honeymoon hotspot, the island is carving out its place as a top-tier adventure and wellness destination, ensuring that visitors leave not just with memories, but with a renewed sense of inspiration.
For those seeking an unforgettable Caribbean escape, Saint Lucia is more than just a destination—it’s an experience that promises to let her inspire you.
