At a time when recruiting seasonal workers is becoming an ever more pressing priority, mountain resorts are looking to innovate. “Where should we go to reach the highest number of seasonal workers? How can we ensure that interested seasonal workers can meet us regardless of their working hours and days off, or if they're on holiday?” These were the questions posed by the organizers of Megève's first virtual recruitment forum. To meet this challenge, the resort is planning two sessions, on Thursday 5 September and Tuesday 10 September 2024, in a format that promises to ‘make it easier for recruiters and applicants to get in touch’.

A response to the challenges of seasonal recruitment

“The recruitment of seasonal workers is a problem that becomes more pressing every year,” explains Malourène Cordier, Megève's social and professional relations manager. The choice of this virtual event stems from a desire for efficiency and modernity. “The virtual format offers essential flexibility for candidates, who can take part from anywhere at any time,” she told Journal des Palaces.

Thanks to an innovative platform, recruiters and candidates can interact as if they were in person, but without the constraints of travelling. “This format not only allows us to present a personalized “showcase” of Megève, but also to bring together a wide range of recruiters, which reinforces the importance of employment in the local hotel industry,” adds Malourène Cordier. The platform used, vFairs, offers an interactive experience, with personalized virtual spaces that reflect the identity of Megève and its hoteliers.

An immersive setting

From Thursday 22 August, candidates were able to register and start exploring the job vacancies available. Until 9 September, they can visit the different virtual spaces and plan their interviews. The days of 5 and 10 September will be dedicated to interviews, informal chat sessions and the broadcasting of videos highlighting Megève, its tourist attractions and tips on how to succeed in an online interview.

Some scenographic features have been designed to appeal to applicants : ‘An exterior, reminiscent of the Palais in Megève, will lead to a lobby in the Megève colours, which will serve the recruitment area where the 12 kiosks will be located, a lounge with links to our social networks, an auditorium where videos presenting the forum and Megève will be available, and a video-tutorial on “How to succeed in an interview at the forum”’ make up the décor in which applicants and recruiters will virtually move around.

Attracting talent

The success of the forum also relies on the commitment of local hoteliers. “11 hoteliers, representing 12 properties, have joined forces with Megève Tourism”, explains Malourène Cordier. These include prestigious names such as the Four Seasons Megève Collection, Le M de Megève and L'Alpaga, all of which are actively involved in preparing the event. “While Megève Tourism is leading the project, the general managers of each hotel, and one of their staff, are taking part in weekly discussions and in the various working groups needed to set up this first event,” Malourène Cordier is delighted to say. In total, the participating properties are offering more than 500 positions in various areas, from reception to catering, spa and maintenance.
With this virtual forum, Megève hopes to attract many qualified candidates. “The main qualities sought are motivation, both for the job and for the property and destination. While qualified and experienced profiles are highly sought-after, hoteliers also open their doors to beginners,” points out Malourène Cordier. The working conditions are specific to each hotel, particularly in terms of accommodation and the journey between the company and the residence, but the resort has introduced some benefits specifically for seasonal workers.

“Thanks to their employment contract, they can obtain a seasonal worker card, which opens the doors to the Vivre Megève association. This offers them preferential-rate ski passes and substantial discounts on subscriptions and individual sessions in the various areas of Le Palais in Megève: fitness room and classes, swimming pool, balneotherapy, climbing, media library, etc., as well as reduced-price tickets for the cinema and the Luges 4 Saisons,” explains the manager.

By combining innovation and flexibility, this virtual forum offers a unique opportunity to enhance the attractiveness of the resort while responding to the current challenges of the job market. It's a promising initiative for tackling the problem of recruitment in mountain resorts.
